Orangeslice13, a blessing to those around him…..Again

Dimensions:

What we call the deck (the main portion): approx 12’ [wall of house/ sunroom] with double doors out to edge before veg beds begin) x approx 14’ (left to right in photo, laundry wall on left to edge of deck on right)

The access portion? leg?: 6’ from outer wall of enclosed laundry porch (back to front of photo) to leading edge of deck x approx 7 1/2’ left to right of photo (door into kitchen on left; beginning of actual deck on right)

All the main portion of the deck, maybe a bit to the left (where the laundry porch projects out.)

No screening. Just a bit of shade, some privacy from this angle (I assume that the beams would run out to where I’m standing, with cross pieces for privacy and support for vines, and a place for grapes to grow.
I’ve screened in and built pergolas on roof valleys like yours before. Set post brackets on the roof above the exterior wall. This allows water to the existing gutters. If you screen in then you screen Beyond the gutters.
Basically looks this. IMG_8135.jpeg

Oh, nice!!!!

I didn’t realize that you could go up into the existing roof area, but that makes complete sense! THANK YOU!!

Might block the neighbors’ view…
It would partially block their balcony view. Wouldn’t help with the picture window view.

I’m not calling it the NIMBY addition, because it’s their right to create architectural monstrosities if they like, as long as it’s within code.

Instead, I call it the AIMBY addition, Almost in My Back Yard. 🙄

If you are really concerned.
You might want to check with the city to make sure they got a permit and that they have the required setbacks from the side yard and back yard. And what is built is what the permit calls for. Have others in the neighborhood built similar additions?

I think You have posted pics of your home before, and it's a classis lookng house. Is it in a special architectural district? i.e, Historic neighborhood.

He had surveyors out, etc. There’s a permit on display. This is not unusual in our neighborhood - his house is, well, WAS, a 2/1, and a lot of people add on at least a MBR and second bath.

He and his wife are bigwigs in a local real estate firm, and they do a lot of entertaining. So I’m guessing that they’ve also added a home office and some sort of party room on the first floor, with a master suite above.

They’re nice people with a new baby, and we wondered why he was so apologetic-looking when he told us they were remodeling. We figured it was because of the noise. Oh well. They’ll have one helluva mountain view (Mt. Pisgah, etc.) when they’re done.

This happens with hot city neighborhoods. Our house has nearly tripled in value since we bought it ten years ago. (It’s in an historic neighborhood, but not capital-H Historic.) Thanks for the kind thoughts!

- and happy 100th birthday to our house this year! And I may have found which kit house it originally was (many differences, including being 4’ wider to accommodate a central hall, but this is mighty darn close):

@BowlBrother85
Moved our conversation here to not Fup that thread.
I’m not trolling you….not anymore anyway. My life has calmed way down and I no longer enjoy the crap and antics I used too.
Seriously, I apologize for how I treated you in the past. It is what it is. If you’re not interested in civility moving forward I understand. I was pretty ****** to you for a while.
Up to you friend

@clarksvol00
