Dobbs looked good and showed us enough spark and positive playmaking to lend hope for making a bowl but with these upcoming opponents we need the defense to regroup and give that offense short fields and manageable situations.

The defense started losing their reason to fight as hard as they were and they've been getting gassed and picked on but with Dobbs came new life for all of team 118 and now starts their time more than any other to shine. Not knocking Dobbs at all but he's as likely to take a step back in coming games as he his to contend for Heisman. Making his job easier makes us more likely winners.

So your saying he's not in any way shape or form at all likely to take a step back in coming games?

Well that's good news.

Haha, nice play on my wording. I think you get my point. That said I really hope he doesn't take any steps back but putting him in easy or more manageable situations is what needs to happen to best help him achieve that goal.

Good point OP - maybe it was a bit of shock to see us run some against Bama.

But now will teams try to force us to throw it with Dobbs?

I am not sure how consistent his throwing accuracy is? "Is that you coach Jones?"

Seriously, it was nice to have some options there. We do need to keep mixing it up though. If we could count on some blocking, maybe we could have some double moves for these recievers.

At this point, the focus shouldnt be on making a bowl. We have to finish this season by only focusing on one game at a time and hope the end result is what we all want. I dont think a bowl game this season means a lot. I know there are obvious benefits of going to a bowl but its not like just because we go to some lower teir bowl game that all the sudden were on the rise and likewise if we dont go to a bowl it doesnt mean were not going to be better in the near future.

I agree. We've cut our teeth and now is time to show why Butch and Co. are elite coaches. Solid play, solid planning and make a bowl.

Easy now. Calling this staff elite coaches is a bit much.
Elite coaches don't change defensive coverage (that had been working great) because of one opposing player and don't need an injury to get in the quarterback that fits their system.

I don't disagree with what you are alluding to but if they are going to establish they are upper level then these next 4 games play a big part in showcasing that. IMO.

To the other poster that said a bowl isn't important. Maybe the actual bowl itself is not but the practice and games themselves are and a bowl is a natural byproduct of success in those. This coaching staff needs a bowl. Call me crazy but there will be talk especially after Dobbs did what he did if we now do not make one.

Man, that Belichick sure isn't an elite coach right? :banghead2:

I’d agree on the defense becoming gassed in games but not to losing their will to fight as hard in any game.

The defense actually got better as the game progressed. I hate to admit it but Kiffin schemed and scripted the first quarter to take advantage of our excitement and emotion. Sutton making the effort to force the fumble on the goal line in the 4th quarter confirms that they kept fighting. They were gassed, but didn't give up.

I wasn't referring to Bama more to Ole Miss. Also I am not saying consciously they were stopping fighting I was saying that subconsciously there are only so many times you can line up for max effort in a losing battle. Mental/physical fatigue can go hand in hand.
