I'll be at UT next semester and was trying to find out a little more about Orange Nation. I'm pretty sure I can't get in it until next school year via the website. Just wondering if anyone has been in it? Does it cost anything? Is it worth it? Any information you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Yes it costs money... when I was there it was $50 a semester. I didn't join, b/c I felt it was a crappy attempt by the university to get even MORE money out of us... so obviously I didn't think it was worth it, b/c I chose not to join.

You DO get a T-shirt, so that can assuage some of your $50 cost.

jwells has some strong feelings about Orange Nation that he will probably share as well...

My problems with Orange Nation stemmed from their primo seating they used to get at basketball games. All the students wait outside all day long, only to get in and have the first 5-10 rows taken. They've fixed that problem in the past year.

During football, it sucks, but it's not SO bad. It is atleast better than having the first rows full of disinterested frat boys and sorority girls that couldn't care less, and left at halftime. (Take a look around this saturday at ULL if you don't believe me...the student section is going to have huge gaps where the school, for whatever reason, still lets them have block seating)

I didn't join the ON, and I've still had a great time. I've had, for the most part, good seats for games, and I didn't have to pay 50.00 to do it. Crappy tshirts, a few pizzas here and there, and a tiny discount on some food plus going to a couple practices just isn't worth it. It's unnecessary, but not as bad of a group now as it used to be. It used to alienate non-members, but now it's just a mild annoyance.

Do not join Orange Nation or join the "Big Orange Army"

Orange Nation is a rip-off I might add.

I've had crappy seats once this semester and that's for the ULL game. They're in double B.

First of all, I really don't think its just the Greeks that are disinterested/leave at halftime. And I can guarantee you the frat guys I know are possibly even more into the game than anyone else.

Second of all besides that comment I agree. Ive been in DD 1, F 21, G 22, J 28, and E 17 this year, all without being in ON. You won't need to join. Spend your money on something more important- like booze.

One more quick question...Who would I contact about student tickets? I think I may have heard that you just scan your student card to get into the basketball games. Is this true? And I'm guessing football is different than this...

For basketball games, You slide your card at the door and thats it. For football, you have to go to the Ticket office in the UC two thursdays before the game(like the tickets for this saturdays game vs. Arkansas started thursday Nov. 1st.). Then you slide your card at the gate and they rip your ticket.

There was a rumor that they were going to start doing student tickets for men's bball games. They already do it for the Lady Vols and Football... with the direction our team is headed, that would be a good idea.

I went to the Duke game last year and I just swiped my ID just like the mens game. They may have changed it for this year though. I dunno.
