i can see the SEC saying no.... Honestly if it catches on i could really not see schools wearing away jerseys unless it were teams like bama and arkansas playing or syracuse and UT....any teams with similar colors.

I don't think it would be that big of a deal honestly. I would imagine most teams would only do it for really big games such as Bama/Auburn, Bama/UT, UGA/UF, Michigan/OSU. There is a lot of interpretation to the conference agreeing on the contrasting colors, but you could just about throw out any game where both teams have some shade of red such as Bama, Arkansas, UGA, USCjr and Ole Miss if they go back to red jerseys. And you could probably throw in Miss St. for some games such as Bama and Ark. So, I highly doubt there will be a great deal of opportunity for it to happen. Besides, if the home team has to give written permission, do you really think CLK would tell Florida they could wear blue here? I wouldn't. I'd limit them to 2 colors--white and pink.

I think we could wear orange for every game against SEC teams, but I think it will only happen against Bama. Kind of like Pearl only wearing the orange blazer against UK and Vandy.

I can still see a magazine cover from the mid-60s (SI?) with Tennessee and Bama game action on the cover, orange vs red (kinda like half a Rook game).

People should remember that this rule was created by the SEC to prohibit UT from wearing orange on the road. With Mike Slive in power I suspect that we will be limited in using our home jerseys on the road. I think that we should also invite all visitors to Neyland Stadium to wear their home jerseys since we always will have a distinguished color contrast with our home uniforms. That would add to an already great game day in college football.

I think it's safe to say that our home jerseys are the least likely in the conference to get confused with the opposing team. That being said, I also think we are one of the least likely to get approved by other teams to wear them on the road! :p

I have said in other places that I support the idea of teams both wearing home colors for big games and the occasional special event game, and I think it can be really cool as a special thing. But I disagree with the concept of it happening frequently, because I like the tradition of having a home uniform and an away uniform. And yes, most teams' home uniforms look cooler than their away uniforms. And who wouldn't want to look cool? But that's part of the honor of being the home team. You get to look cooler than the other team, as well as have the home crowd.

Glad to do it. If you wanna see something just as awesome as the picture, just check out the headline on the cover below the title!

I would love to see that cover redone this fall for SI's late October / early November issue this year. Same headline, current players. It would be a beautiful sight.

I recall a home game against Vandy in the mid-1960s when the 'Dores wore gold jerseys/white pants and the Vols had their home orange & white. It was a bit distracting, but that's Vandy for you. I've always thought that road white jerseys came to be used because of B&W TV, and that before TV, most teams wore their home colors on the road unless there was an obvious color match such as those cited above. Does anyone know the history of this?

I wonder why more schools don't insist on wearing their away jerseys at Baton Rouge and force LSU to wear their purple jerseys. Hell, I think the purple jerseys look better than their white.
