I have been thinking over the last 10 years and all the negative situations that have blanketed UT sports. It started I think at the Georgia Dome that December in 2001 when a heavily favored UT was beaten by LSU. The next 7 years saw a gradual but sure decline in the football team. There was some reason for hope 2006/2007 when Cutcliffe returned and UT had respectable seasons. But when he left the team was bad again and that spelled the end after UT got drilled by South Carolina CPF was fired. In comes Kiffin trash talking and flying helicopters to high school football games to check out recruits. He leaves with looming NCAA investigation into recruiting violations. Then the basketball team was great again and then 4 UT basketball players get pulled over with pot, beer and filed off serial number handgun found in the car. The biggest negative situation to hit UT was unbelievably Pearl lies to NCAA investigators over secondary violations and he is allowed to coach rest of season before mounting pressure on the athletic department forces Hamilton to fire him and then resign himself. In comes Dooley and while generally a good face for UT football, back to back losing seasons! Culminating in a loss to Kentucky with a WR at quarterback. The reason for optimism is Stokes has signed with the basketball team. He is a top 10 player and can help with returning UT to respectability in basketball. The other while not confirmed is Shannon as possible DC in football. We all deserve some good news in UT sports and maybe the tide has changed.
