Opposing fans buying UT gear?

If their experience in Knoxville was positive enough for them to be buying memorabilia, then we're doing something right. It spreads a positive message about UT to other states. Nothing wrong in having athletes from states like Montana or Ohio looking in our direction. We need the PR and Dooley is doing it the right way, not by running his mouth.

I met a group at the Gnome Sat night and they were all really cool people. One girl I was talking to for a while said she was going to apply to UT when she got back home! lol. The whole group was just bragging about how awesome Knoxville was and how they wished they lived here.

One of the guys though said I was real cool but if I lived in Cinci I would get labeled fratastic and made fun of up there. Just because I wore white shorts and a orange polo with sperrys. Im not in a fraternity BTW.

Oh my god yes. Several of my friends were made fun of by Cinci fans for wearing collared shirts and khakis to the game. The people doing the ridiculing were wearing basketball jerseys to a football game.

Lots of Oregon Duck fans were buying Tennessee gear last year. Coolest fanbase I had ever been around.

Yeah, I really enjoyed them too, except for all that yelling in the 2nd half. The guy next to me had a hat and rain gear, and said it was a souvi.

For fans from other conferences that travel in, they might just want some swag fron their road trip. Obviously SEC fans wouldn't do this, but we are different breed. Despite what they say, this was their Superbowl.

I worked in cincinnati for a year and a half and I was amazed at how many vol fans are living there. You would see power t's on cars and people wearing orange. The coolest ut hat Ive ever bought was at a mall in cincinnati. Asked a guy why so many fans and hr said most people who live there hate Ohio state because folks from columbus look down on cincinnati natives
Not sure why but whatever works im for it. Nice to go north and see a little taste home!

I work at a local restaurant and a lot of my customers were cinnci fans with family attending UT. And most had at least two or more of their group rocking orange. They were so sad this morning, making that drive for a sure "upset"...

Nope! I don't want bandwagon fans. Tough times come again they will just bail anyway. Bandwagon fans piss me off

Bandwagon fans mean we are relevant and winning. No bandwagon fans is where we are currently. Hopefully that changes. All aboard!!!

It might have already been mentioned, but there is an awful lot of ut support around the cincy area. It seems like every time I am in cincy there is more ky and ut gear around than actual bearcat support. It is just an observation, but cincy is not as far out of the vol support spectrum as some might believe. Sure buckeye fans dominate all over the place, but I am always surprised at how much ut swag can be seen around that town. Just visit a sports store in and around cincinatti if your ever there and you will probably see ut stuff for sale, I certainly have.

As others have mentioned, just souvenirs from a cool trip. Being UT fans, we sometimes probably take for granted what a great stadium and atmosphere we have. For the Montana fans, imagine being used to Washington-Grizzly stadium, which seats around 25k, then coming into a stadium that is 4 times that size. Can you picture how imposing a stadium 4 times the size of Neyland would be? Same can be said for Nippert, it holds around 35k, so Neyland is about 3 times its size. Then think about the number of fans around the stadium, 100k walking the streets decked out in orange is a sight to behold.

Why is everybody so paranoid and afraid to think that someone might actually like to pull for Tennessee? Especially after making a trip here. We aren't talking about buckeyes, we're talking about UC. I have a nephew who is a Tennessee fan and went to the UGAvBoise game, decked out in Boise gear. He likes Boise. He's a fan.

There are people out there that pull for more than one team. I know, it's hard to believe, but I assure you it's true.

I was in Z13 and a guy had on a Cincy jersey and hat. He took the jersey off and put on a brand new UT shirt halfway through the 3rd quarter. Someone yelled, "that's a smart man right there." All he did was smile.

I saw a couple families who had a few in cincy gear and a few in ut gear. One Cincy guy, whose wife was wearing orange, said if we weren't playing cincy he'd have his orange on. I'm assuming he's either from cincy or went to school there.

Every college football fan should have an sec team they go for. Everything about sec football is different and better than any other college football.

If you ever see me in line buying things from another SEC school call 911 because someone has a gun to my back. Out of conference schools, especially a really far road game, I could see buying a souvenir.

Bandwagoners love the Bray Train. Win and they shall come.

There will be a bunch of those before this group's careers are done.

Speaking of bandwagon fans...was talking to a guy in my gym in his mid 20's who group up in upstate NY. His favorite team is the Colts because of Manning. All the way up in NY, he became a huge fan of Manning at UT and adopted the Colts because of him.

The Bray, Hunter and Rogers show is about to explode nationally.

Saturday at the two bookstores I saw no less than ten Cincy fans buying UT gear, one boy in Cincy gear was even trying to decide between a UT jersey or hat. I joked with my friend and said that it was so they could change into the UT gear after the game when we handle them. I'm curious as to why these fans would want to purchase UT apparel? I know I would never go to an away game and purchase the opposing team's gear, especially if we get whooped like Cincy did yesterday.

We have friends who went to BYU and went to the Ole Miss game last week. They bought Ole Miss shirts as a souvineer. I guess that's what it's like outside the SEC.

I would never do this. I had a buddy who made the UCLA trip with a couple of us in '08 and he insisted on buying some UCLA stuff before the game to take back home as souvenirs. Cost us the game.
