Opposing fans buying UT gear?

Saturday at the two bookstores I saw no less than ten Cincy fans buying UT gear, one boy in Cincy gear was even trying to decide between a UT jersey or hat. I joked with my friend and said that it was so they could change into the UT gear after the game when we handle them. I'm curious as to why these fans would want to purchase UT apparel? I know I would never go to an away game and purchase the opposing team's gear, especially if we get whooped like Cincy did yesterday.

For fans from other conferences that travel in, they might just want some swag fron their road trip. Obviously SEC fans wouldn't do this, but we are different breed. Despite what they say, this was their Superbowl.

I saw this also. We had for guys wearing Cincy t shirts in front of us. Near the end of the third quarter one of them actually said he's switching and asked where he could buy a UT shirt.

I think that is awesome! Maybe we acquired additional fans this weekend! Would love to see more orange around the country!

When Cincy is "off" who are they going to follow? Ohio State is shameful, KY is awful, so that leaves UT as a reasonable choice!

I will tell you guys from experience..

coming in from another area, the Vols and Knoxville have a way of changing you.. you think you know what CFB is about, and then you get here and you find out everything you thought was wrong.. you will still always root for your home team or where you graduated..they will have a soft spot in your heart.. But...

Then you get transformed into a VFL... so much so that you move here and marry a Knoxville woman.

Why do you think we do so poorly with recruits usually until they take their visit? It's because you have to experience it to understand.. TV does not do it justice in the least..

My brother in law is a GT fan. He bought a shirt and a hat before the game and sang Rocky Top every time it was played

the Cincy area has a huge UT alum base and I knew at least two dozen kids from the Cincy area when I was there...every time i go to a Reds game I see at least 2-3 VOLS hats...so those people could easily have been buying things for friends/realatives

I once bought an awesome Green-Ellis Ole Miss jersey in Oxford because it was dirt cheap and fit me well....I didn't mind buying an Ole Miss jersey because they arent a rival and we almost always beat them...

I wouldn't expect that out of a traveling fan, but would out of the "average fan" after visiting Neyland. It's hard to matchup with what happens on the Hill on gameday.

I see. It was pretty cool, if a little akward, to see them in line with orange and white in their hand. Hopefully they go home and tell people the awsome experience they had in Neyland.

I wouldn't be surprised if a few Cincy fans had friendly wagers on the game back home that required wearing Tennessee gear if Cincy didn't win.

The ones I saw and talked to seamed to be in awe of the whole experience. I kinda felt sorry for them, their team is named after some made up or mutated animal thing and their chant sucks. Did anyone else hear that annoying chant they were doing? They didn't do it much past the first quarter.

I saw lots of Oregon fans buying stuff last year too. I would guess since it's a long trip and not likely to happen again they wanted something to remember it

What were they chanting? All you could hear on TV, was touchdown Tennessee!!!!!
