Opposing coach reveals secret of Kiffin offense

Yes he received a boatload of talent at the LB position this year.

Exactly. That's where the article goes south. We have no depth at DT, we were starting a walk-on at middle linebacker. We are really pretty limited in a lot of spots besides Eric Berry and Dan Williams. This kind of reminds me of the people I have seen that said our O-Line was left stacked for Lane on offense. But I'm sure Griff loved someone saying that, so he could avoid giving any credit to Monte Kiffin.

Were we left with boat loads of talent or did we have some pieces and this staff has coached the rest up to higher than expected performance?

It's obvious we have just coached guys up better that did nothing last year like Chris Walker. I just find it interesting that Monte's success has not one time been mentioned in a blog by Griff. The only time he is mentioned is when it is in reference to him being overpaid or when Guz Malzahn supposedly had the recipe to beat Monte. Not once has Griff ever given Monte the respect he's due because I guess he would then have to admit that we have received a huge upgrade at DC.

Who the hell cares who the source is? Articles do this all the time, read any national sportswriter and and you'll see quotes from "an AFC player personnel executive who wanted to remain anonymous," or "we asked scouts from every team in the NFC East to give their opinions on the best defensive line in the division," etc. I can't believe there's been so much agita worked up over some insightful and uncontroversial observations Griff has published.

Nice article, Griff.

I must say ,who ever it is,is a tad slow. It's been smoke and mirrors all year as Kiffin said it would be.

Griff: thanks for the article. I thought it was interesting. Worth hearing what another coach on our schedule thinks of CLK and UT's staff.

I conclude they're all scared!

GO VOLS!

The coach said he felt Tennessee played its best game of the year Saturday night.

The funny thing is that Kiffin has said the exact opposite of this. Maybe defensively, but definitely not offensively. I really like the attitude of "there's always work to be done" that these coaches have brought in.

Griff, I actually enjoyed reading the article. Some decent insight and I enjoy hearing about what others think about Lane and his team.

His offense is very efficient. He has done a very good job getting the most out of everyone. This team is light years better than last and that is a testament to the coaching.

His offense might not be fancy, but it works and you have to be able to do the basics before you can do anything else.

Give him time and the talent that he wants and his offense will evolve. I don't think it will be earth shattering, but it will be efficient and hard to stop. That is all you can ask for.

This is from Tommy Tuberville. He was on George Lapides this AM and had some interesting observations:

1.Kiffin and staff did a great job of coaching Crompton, finally figuring out that he could only see, study, half of the field instead of the entire field, thus increasing his competency.

Yeah, that should raise Crompton's draft stock :eek:k:

That all I want.....except maybe that we always score more points than our opponents.

Good article Griff, seemed very positive to me. the scheme counts for a bunch but motivation has to be the rest of the equation. Coach and staff have the guys playing hard. I love the attitude

Good article Griff. And I don't have a problem in your protecting your source--that would be interesting to know but no problem in your not sharing.

I disagree with the coach's analysis of the TN D. In looking at the starters as the season started, we had:

C. Walker--no real starting expereince
B. Martin/G. Williams--no real starting experince
D. Williams--starter for 2(?) years
W. Brown--experienced but knee issues
M. Hughes--freshman
R. McCoy---2 year starter
N. Reveiz--no starts and a walk on to boot
L. Thompson--no starting experience
D. Rogan--prior starter but has had his ups and dwns in prior years
M. Thompson--starter last year
EB--no comment needed
JJ--freshman

Pre season, I don't know how you could look at those players and say they have a boatload of talent. There is a lot of inexperience there. Rather than saying the D was left with boatload of talent, I'd say they've coached'em up awfully well.

"It's all smoke and mirrors; they don't have a lot of different plays,'' he said. "Their pass game, there are three, four, maybe five basic concepts. But they give you enough looks and motions where all it takes is one guy to get misaligned...In fact, UT quarterback Jonathan Crompton is still only looking for receivers on one side of the field."

Psst...they do the SAME THING every Sunday in the Pro Game. Where's the news here???

Griffith would probably quit writing before he would give Monte Kiffin any credit. It's really quite sickening. Griffith probably posed the question to this coach like this, "Well, John Chavis, my "buddy", sure left Monte a boatload of talent didn't he?"
