I’ve posted actual statistics and rationale for why I think Vols are better off playing against UK. Unless I missed another one your main worry is the number of Kentucky fans who would show up vs how many Illinois fans. Of all things, that to me is the least consequential factor in this matchup. I’ve been to a gazillion ncaa tournament games in these stupid football stadiums including Indy. I’m not afraid of playing UK in Rupp, I’m certainly not afraid of UK in the cavernous Lucas oil,
Your confidence against Kentucky in cavernous Lucas Oil would be more comforting if Tennessee weren’t playing Kentucky in Gainbridge Arena.

You might be right about the effect of crowd noise. Hope you are. But your initial comment was not that crowd noise has no influence, but that Champaign is closer to Indianapolis than Lexington, as if that meant Kentucky wouldn’t bring more fans than Illinois. They would/will. Because they’re Kentucky fans and Illinois fans are not.

Then you changed the subject.

The game is at Lucas Oil, oddly enough in the end zone rather than the center configuration they use for the Finsl Four:

Weird because it’s supposed to act like a trial run for an upcoming Final Four but it’s a completely different config.

Oh good, we’re gonna win now.

One of the things I found fascinating is that this configuration should be better for viewing angles for a lot of people in the football bowl. It’s a lot like the setup for Syracuse in their dome, though of course much larger. When they drop the floor and use the whole dome the seating tiers are pretty far away from the court, so there really is no ideal view of the game. You’re either too low to consistently see over the people in front of you or too far away to make out the action.

This. In response to another poster, Lucas Oil has hosted enough NCAA events, and the NCAA offices are located in Indy, so they don't really need a "trial run" for a Final Four. I have attended a regional there using the smaller configuration, and if you're in the 300-level or higher, you'll have a distant view. We were in the 300-level corner last time and had to use the video boards to see numbers and tell who scored, fouls, etc. It's terrible. If you recall, the Vols played Michigan there in a regional in 2014, so I'm sure a few on this board have been before. I'd love to go but have no interest in sitting so far away or, more importantly, being around 20,000 pathetic Kentucky fans.
