Butch Jones and team 120 just don't have it, they will lose to Kentucky & Vanderbilt and finish 7-5 possible Belk Bowl:lolabove:

With 3 of the 4 appointed captains sidelined Butch has to appoint new guy's into those leadership positions. We rolled out one guy (Dobbs) for the coin toss against SCAR. IMO those guys should be Barnett, Jennings, and Todd Kelly Jr/Evan Berry. This team needs leadership. Barnett is the most destructive force we've seen on the defense since the likes of Leonard Little or Al Wilson. So why shouldn't he be a captain? Also there absolutely has to be a change made at OC. Coach Debo is simply not getting the job done. With all these young gun coaches trying to make a name for themselves surely we can find someone better than Debords old ass.

They should look better given the level of competition.

Whether that actually happens or not will be a referendum of sorts on this staff and the senior leadership.

No excuse for losing to any team remaining on the schedule . Absolutely none.

I said on here a week or so ago that Tennessee would win out the rest of the season from Carolina on. Said it would be easy.

I thought the bye week would give the team a chance to breathe and give them a moment to see what the rest of the season had in store and what was possible. An SEC title shot. A New Year's 6 bowl. Etc, etc, etc.

And like the opening game of this season when so much promise was available and a lot of big things could be accomplished.....they went out and gave a mediocre at best effort.

I can't explain it. I can only guess that it has far more to do with more than just Hurd.

Usually (which is why I'm afraid of Florida's trip to Arkansas this week) when a team plays poorly, they can't wait to get back on the field and redeem themselves. There is a different energy and passion after a lackluster performance.

But, after Appy State when the unthinkable almost happened, they come out flat. They come out flat against Ohio. Makes sense, big game against Florida is the next week. Came out flat in that one. After that rousing comeback and all of the good vibes from that.....come out flat against Georgia. Play with effort against A&M but make mistakes like crazy. Get the doors blown off by Bama and with what was mentioned still to play for.....after being embarrassed and a bye.....they phoned it in against Carolina.

If they intended to "flip the switch", I would have thought they'd have done it by now.

I expect them to win out. But, I expect it to look the same as it has all season.

They are about to look like the team we thought we had.

Don't underestimate the effect that the Hurd situation had on this team.

Butch is free, Dobbs is free and Kelly is indeed hungry.

We win out and Atlanta hopes rest on FL

College football is about producing. So, if you consider that Jalen was a first year starter, with only this season to judge, this would be a non event. In reality, this is what it is. You are what your production says you are for the team TODAY. This year, he was a sub par SEC back...for whatever reason. So, we just lost a marginally contributing player with Kelly killing it with effort and results...on top of Kamara coming back. IF IF IF, we can eliminate penalties/turnovers, Debord gets outside of his comfort zone, and defense improves on "gash" plays, we'll finish 4-0. Butch is right about one thing...they need to eliminate distractions and play like they can...can't do anything about the injuries. We still "out talent" all the rest of teams we play, but can't afford to show up and put forth lackluster effort. If they do this, we're 2-2.

No difference. This team will continue to suck and struggle. They will beat their last four opponents in lackluster fashion. They will back into SRCCG due to UF losing to both the Hogs and LSU. Vols will get lambasted again by Bama. Tennessee punishes a middling Big Ten team in the Tax slayer bowl to finish 10-4. Butch will get a contract extension as well as the BSIA. Tennessee doomed to Richt-like mediocrity for years.

I think the team will perform better without hurd.** I don't think the coaching staff was using him correctly in that particular offense. They should have been using him on short down situations only and Kamara as the every down back.

**They will only perform better if Dobbs doesn't turn the ball over. Throughout the season all i have heard is that Dobbs will always have 2-4 terrible throws and i have come to live with it because every game he has had those questionable throws. I have always been a fan of Dobbs his ability to run the ball and take over a game have been really effective. But he cant make bad mistakes like during the SC game. That second int was just bad there is no other way to put it. Dobbs has to step up his game and not turn the ball over.

With that being said i don't think the sky is falling. I would much rather be in this situation than having 3 maybe 4 wins at this point and looking at the remains schedule hoping we win 2 more. Butch has done a good job turning the program around and yes the coaching staff has made plenty of mistakes and yes there was a lot of hope for this season but its not over.

Go vols

I think its a mistake to think Hurd is the reason why this question needs to be asked about the rest of the season.

UT still has a better roster than everyone else they play no different than with SC last week. That said UK and Vandy can both beat them and it wouldnt surprise me if either or both did. Even with superior talent this team is not coached very well and that closed the gap between the cellar dwellers in the east and UT.

This.

We should win out. I think things may be easier with Hurd out because it's one less set of tendencies that the offense has to think about for blocking schemes.

I can be satisfied with 10-3 all things considered. It wasn't too long ago we were praying to be bowl eligible. But wow if there was ever a season of missed opportunity, this was it.
