I looked up punting statistics from 2009 and they weren't quite as bad as I thought, but inconsistent. Here are the punting averages for each game(did not find an average for the whole year and did not calculate)

I expect Cunningham to start at punter because of his experience. A 42-yard average is pretty good, even if it doesn't have Dustin Colquitt's hangtime.

Lincoln will have to beat Palardy in practice to keep his job though. I don't see that happening.

Palardy is as good or better punter than Darr. He has been told he can compete for punter also, but it may be tough to do all 3.

:eek:lol:Are you serious? You think that it would be difficult to be the kicker and the punter? Thanks for the laugh.

It def ups the chances of pulling a hammy or some other injury if your kicking the entire game, so yea it is difficult. You dont want your kicker out of juice when its time to make a game winning field goal.

I could live with Cunningham being the punter but we cannot have Daniel Lincoln as our kicker.

What happened to the Rhome kid? He did great in the O/W game. I would think he would be ahead of Lincoln if he is still there.

Go to about 3:00. All of these kicks were done from the 30 yard line (college line), and on a college tee.

When Lincoln or Cunningham can do this...then they can have the job.

He's a good kicker and I suspect will start for ko at least. But these kicks were clearly from the 40, not the 30. Think the 35 may be the actual college spot.

Edit: College line is the 30. So most of these would have been a few yards deep.

Get them in there. Make Cunningham practice coffin corner kicks between the 40s. Palardy nails FGs that are closer in.

Palardy is probably already the starter at kicker. Darr will only start if he can out punt both Palardy and Cunningham.

Not so fast...

Dooley quote on Lincoln and Cunningham was "two good seniors we feel like we can count on, and we're not not looking to replace them ... but I tell you what, we do have two talented freshmen. I'm no afraid to say those kickers are really talented."

Congratulations! You and your friend BOTH managed to be wrong. They will not be redshirted nor will they start game 1. They won't be redshirted because they'll be second on the depth chart and kickers and punters are always fragile. They may be the most talented at their respective positions, but they won't start immediately either. They'll be worked in here and there as the year progresses, if I had to guess. One or both may actually win the starting jobs at some point...just not day one.
One of them will kickoff. No question because the others can't even get the ball to the 10 yard line.

Palardy will start game 1 at kicker. Lincoln is terrible.

Cunningham will likely start at punter.

Dooley must have not watched the tape of the 2009 Alabama game then. Kick was low and going left anyway.

Coach speak for Lincoln gets first shot in practice, but Palardy will be starting.

FGs = Lincoln will start it off until he proves his uncanny choking ability. Palardy will get a shot eventually.

KOs = Palardy has the strongest kicking leg of them all. He will be kicking off this year. I'd be shocked if it's not from the opening kickoff of game 1.

Punter = Cunningham should be decent. I doubt Darr gets much PT this year but he and Palardy will battle for the punter job next year.

So he hasnt even played a game in Orange and White and already your proclaiming him a better punter than any of the Colquitt's?

Another thing, and I could be way off on this one. Everyone on here thinks Palardy will just come in and boot every kickoff deep into the endzone for a touchback because thats what he did with the majority of his kickoffs in high school. However, in college dont they put the ball further back? Meaning kickoffs in high school that reached the back of the end zone may only reach the 5 yard line in college? I hope they both play well, no doubt... And I dont think we will know if they are going to redshirt or not until the end of the season unless of course they have seen the field during a game. Just some thoughts. :hi:

At least they won't land on the 10 or 15. A deep kick off will help us a lot. This has been a pet peeve of mine for a long, long time. I refusr to believe that no one on the UT campus can boot it through the endzone. Soccer player or something- what if we just put up flyers "if you can kick through the endzone- you have a scholly"

I feel better about palardy than any other kicker in a long time

Yes, they do put the ball further back, but with Palardy his leg strength is off the charts. I have a friend back home who saw this kid play against Byners last year, and he said every time he kicked the ball it sailed at least 5 yards out of the end zone. It got to the point where it seemed that the return men wouldn't even attempt to field his kicks because they knew where it was going...over their heads.. so, yeah the kid has an incredibility strong leg.
