Opening line - PITT opens as a 1.5pt favorite

Not surprising. Their win over a terrible UMass team was more "flashy" than UT's win over a terrible BGSU team on O. BGSU's QB is much better than UMass' QB... but both teams smothered the opponents' O. Pitt allowed 209 while UT allowed 219.

That's honestly not a bad result from a brand new DC and guys playing under a different defensive philosophy.

It is getting redundant but UT needs better QB play. Get it. Win this game. Don't get it... very likely lose this game. What Milton did Thursday will not beat Pitt.

Why does people act like the QB is the only player on the Team? He doesn't win or lose them solely on his own!

We can't leave the defense on the field for 65% of the game and expect to win. Milton must lead drives like the first 2 last weekend, doesn't have to score every time but control TOP to some degree. We saw him do it so we know its possible.

I thought we'd get more than 1.5. Pitt media thinks they are a 9-10 win lock for the season. We were admittedly underwhelming Thurs. night. Maybe the line will move towards 3.

I'm still betting us regardless.

Being an underdog to Pitt at home means Vegas thinks Pitt is the overall better team toe to toe.

I'd normally be offended, but considering how abysmal Milton looked against BG, this is a very respectable line. Milton makes this team a good 10 points worse

Just saw on ESPN app Pitt -2.5. FPI has Pitt at 58.4% to win. O/U 52.5.

I like the Vols to cover and win at home 31-20 with the under.

Only player, no, but name another position on the team that singlehandedly affects more aspects of the game from offensive production, to field position for special team, to time on the field and field position for the defense.

Ineffective QB play affects nearly every other aspect of the team.

In today's college football, you have to have great quarterback play to win. The Vols are. once again, mediocre at best at the QB position and Pitt has a proven Sr QB. Gonna be another long year for the Vols starting with this weekend.

Pitt's strength on defense is their front 7 so the Vols will need to be successful in the passing attack and neither the QB nor the WRs were very good against a terrible BGSU team. On defense, Pitt has a proven QB and they will expose the Vols lack of a pass rush by the front 4 and the lack of speed in the defensive backfield.

Groundhog Day continues!

Sounds about right. Pitt was a middling team last year. We're probably as talented as they are, but this is an entirely new team and playing Bowling Green doesn't tell you anything.

Under those circumstances, you'd install Pitt as a slight favorite.

Primarily because the D played well, the run game was dominant, receivers got open, and the one missing piece was that Milton did not take advantage of opportunities and went what 1 for his last 12 against a TERRIBLE football team?

There were and are other mistakes that need to be fixed. But if he hits what should have been about 3 easy deep shots to Tillman and some of the TE's running open down the middle of BGSU's zone and some of those in routes that somehow he just didn't see breaking open... we're not having this conversation. Instead we're talking openly about UT's O being a juggernaut.

When CJH tells us that his offense, in it's entirety, is predicated on superb play at QB, we currently have a big problem. Don't count me in as a Grim ReaperVol, but we are falling short of the HC's own expectations. They can get it fixed sooner or later. Who knows. We are approaching week 2 @ 1-0 with new folks. I've seen lots worse lately.

The center
The left tackle
Take your pick on the d line

What did Pitt show that constitutes them being favored in Neyland?

A strong, experienced front 7 that will force the Vols to be effective throwing the ball in order to be successful on offense. A experienced proven QB who has shown an ability to find and hit open receivers which could expose the Vols lack of a speed rusher from the outside and an inexperienced and slightly slower defensive backfield.

Pitt should be favored and TBH, the line is probably a little low, which is a nod to a full (or semi-full) Neyland Stadium.
