only Butch Jones...

He's going to be here at least several more years. The haters might as well realize that and pull for him to succeed. You'll be a much happier person.

They started off by pulling for him.

That's they reason they hate him after all this time.

And when future recruits see this quote, they will flock away from our program and Button Top will continue to bring in 3 Stars to compete with Bama, Florida, and Georgia....

Even Derek Mason isn't that cheesy.

So now you know what goes on inside of the mind of the recruit and you can predict the future? If I was Butch I wouldn't worry about acceptance from fans like this.

As a true VOL fan to me comments like our goal wasn't to win the SEC East and we were not competing for a championship on the field but in life should get a Power5 coach fired. I know I'll be talked bad to buy if you defend this you're the definition of accepting mediocrity. I'm so sick and tired of all the bologna dumb shyt that comes out of CBJ mouth. Damn I'm heated and making a phone call today because this is not acceptable. To hell with the 3 yrs 3 bowl talk, we hv won more games every year talk. THIS IS TENNESSEE not a damn midmajor stop gap job.

Good. Make your phone call and learn how insignificant you really are.

I have never like Sgt Carter, and likely never will. I would really enjoy liking a coach for a change, but CBJ makes it very difficult.

***** the whole statement he's a coward and says and makes coward statements like the not competing for the SECE as a goal of the season. This is Power5 and The UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE we dgaf about coach speak or dumb ass press releases. This is his true mindset and thus why we'll be a middle of the road team until he's gone. Sick of this Shyt

Basically we have a thread full of posts saying the guy needs to get some PR schooling. Can't argue with that. He doesn't seem to get that his communication shortcomings make it easier for people to jump on everything about his abilities as a coach. And I think he is not a bad coach. Somebody in the administration needs to step in.

You think a coach who has been 4 years full of cliches and coach speak won't negatively impact recruiting? We just had two 5 stars leave midseason and Butch is talking about life championships.... Please tell me how that will positively impact recruiting since you say it won't negatively impact.

Prepare to be burned at the stake because your not thrilled we simply won....

there's actually been some good comments made.

and i can admit, i had a reaction to what i heard, and made it known.

can/will my opinion change after some time passing...seeing some additional results etc...? sure.

best advice i've seen in the whole thread....don't watch/listen to the pressers. advice i'm gonna have to use. cause he's not changing how he does things....

Projected SEC standings entering Week 13:

SEC WEST SEC EAST
Alabama (13-0, 9-0)** Florida (8-4, 6-3)**
Auburn (8-4, 5-3) Tennessee (9-3, 5-3)
LSU (7-4, 5-3) Georgia (8-4, 4-4)
Texas A&M (8-4, 4-4) Kentucky (6-6, 4-4)
Arkansas (8-4, 4-4) South Carolina (6-6, 3-5)
Miss State (5-7, 3-5) Vanderbilt (5-7, 2-6)
Ole Miss (5-7, 2-6) Missouri (3-9, 1-7)

**Including SEC title game

It is hard to believe the lack of understanding demonstrated on this board. It seems like some on this board know exactly how to manage a college football program. I for one would not know where to begin. I can however look objectively at the performance of this team. It seems to me that this team has improved each year sense Butch arrived. He not only has improved the Won/Lose record of the team. He has improved the quality/behavior of the players. The image
of the program. The graduation and GPA scores of the players/students. I am not sure you can ask for much more.

:whistling:

Couldn't have said it better!:clap::clap:

For your info i ate breakfast with power boosters this morning in Hendersonville and they're not pleased at all so you stay average Sanddune. For the record I'll leave a voice mail on his and his assistants phones, and if he doesn't want to talk I don't either until he's gone and/ or locked out of recruiting mid TN. This shyt ain't acceptable at TENNESSEE. He has to learn to stfu and stop sounding stupid. We're the laughing stock of the SECE and its all his fault. Vandy fans are talking shyt and thinking they'll win because we can't stop a soul against the run or pass and our offense agaunst a real top tier defense always folds. If this is acceptable to you then you ought to be ashamed of yourself too

How do you know that it will? Because it bothers you? The two 5 stars that left didn't leave because of press conferences and cliches. One left because he was beat out by a harder working better player and the other is a quitter. If you want to be dishonest and try to link the 2 issues together feel free. But some of us that see it for what it is will call you out for trying to pass off bs as the truth.

There's definitely a formula (probably on a chart, of course lol) that Butch uses when being asked questions.

1) Reporter asks obvious question about something needing improvement or going wrong
2) Butch responds by deflecting to something else positive but true
3) Butch then gets defensive and snipes in a condescending manner at people for being concerned about (see #1) when (see #2) is so obviously true...this will typically be peppered with cliches and even outright untruths.

Deflect and Defend.

That works for a while, and even makes fans drawn to support him b/c he's being protective of players etc, but after time - and let's face it's been 4 years - people see through it and get tired of it. It's predictable, which makes him seem inauthentic even if he's actually being authentic.

This is why I say he needs some PR help. Good coach and good individual, just needs help improving his talking discipline.

It doesn't matter. Fact is that people on this board will know a few boosters from high net worth to low net worth.... I know a few across the spectrum. The one that donates the most (7 figures every year to AD and Football Program) isn't necessarily upset, but he isn't satisfied by any means.... I know for a fact that He, along with a lot of bigger boosters aren't happy that Hart is doing a one year's notice. No one in power thinks Butch should be gone after this year... However, don't mistake that for him having a long leash next year.... If we don't win the East next year, Butch can go 9-3 again and still be in trouble...

But you and I will get bashed for dare saying that we know people... I find that it occurs because people don't have someone to get details from... Plain and simple. :hi:

I agree on all of what you said and a lot of guys with airplanes in Mid TN and heavy pockets are highly pissed off. Some players texted and said is he serious once the stories and texts cm to their phones. Its flat out embarassing.

Never been average in my life. Unlike you I don't have to ride former players coat tails. People like you and the supposed power boosters would cause Tennessee to become a coaching graveyard if anyone with any stroke dared to listen to your nonsense. Not to mention, who gives a damn what Vandy fans say? Worrying about irrelevant people is more of a sign of being an average person than a person who thinks it's foolish to fire a coach every couple of years. Last, I checked we are 8-3 and just put 63 points on the board against a team that beat Vandy. Using DEs as DTs due to all of the injuries and losing JRM is the reason we are struggling against the run. Fortunately, Vandy don't have the horses to get the same results as Missou or KY. As a D-line coach at NPA you should already know this. 4 years ago this program was the worst I have ever seen it in the 36 years I have followed Tennessee football. So until I see a year where we win less games than the year before, I will not jump on a coach that has shown progression every year he has been here. And if you think that is mediocrity you shouldn't even have the voice that you do. The fact that you would threaten to attempt to 'lock' a coach out of the midstate tells me you are the ****test fan walking the earth. There is no reason for Buck to keep you on staff.

Some of you are way too worked up about this. Get another hobby if an innocuous statement makes you hate someone you barely know

Yeah, that's what it is. For the record, I know a lot of the same people the gun waving barber knows. Never met him, nor do I really want to. Of course, it has nothing to do with some of you being completely clueless as to how difficult it is to run a football program. Not to mention, guys like you just lie your asses off about stats to fit your agendas. Nothing you say should have any credibility to anyone. You and barber shop are the one's that need to be ostracized and laughed at. The thing is, you are a nobody, so I don't really care about your comments. Dejuan actually knows and works with people that could negatively effect the university. And here he is, openly threatening to hurt a program he supposedly supports.

it is. a lot dumber than actually being upset about not winning the East.

which apparently only 1 of us is, or is allowed to be.

I'm not happy about missing the SECCG. I was pretty pissed off when we lost to South Carolina. And I have concerns about the direction of the program. But that doesn't mean I'm going to go all or nothing like these fringe nutjobs tend to do and call for someone's job after a potential 10 win season. Makes people who do this look like fools.

i think that's what really just gets me going on this....

there still is a lot to be happy about. we beat FL, GA, won the Battle at Bristol. could go to the Sugar Bowl. could get 10 wins.

i just don't understand why CBJ feels the need to keep shoving it down our throats that a) the East wasn't a goal WTF???? b) we won 8 games, first time in a while...or last year.... c) we're going to a bowl.

to me, those kind of comments just kind of derail things for me. it's the fact that it allows the possibility anyone can question our coach's understanding of the expectations, or what the standards are/should be at Tennessee....thus implying that he's not capable of being a coach at a school like TN..is infuriating...to me.

he represents my school, and at times, it's embarrassing.

obviously some don't get that, and to be honest, i'm jealous. i wish i didn't care about it either. it shouldn't matter. the fact that it does, in any circle, is my problem.

so judging from the reaction he's getting right now, here and across social media....clearly whatever message he was trying to get across...he missed the mark.

win, lose...either way....just stop with the spin room type press conferences. he makes bad situations worse, and then, even worse, takes attention away from the actual good stuff and let's it devolve in to stuff like this.

Butch has a lame duck AD and a long contract. And AT TIMES he gets to do whatever he wants and he knows it.

i don't think that's part of it as all. i really don't think he knows any other way.

in all my ranting about this, i can't argue this....he's been this way since day 1....he's consistent. so for all those that say it's silly to be upset about it....

they're right. it is.

and then it isn't....i've been around people in my professional life that can't help themselves, they always feel the need to tell you about their resume.

they do it so much, it's who they are, they don't even know they're doing it. but they can't help, nor can they wait, to tell you about everything they've done.

i think CBJ is just one of those people.
