However, Neuheisel's first game leading UCLA will dwarf Pete Carroll's USC home debut at the Coliseum in 2001, when 45,568 watched the Trojans against San Jose State.
"So we're 20,000 ahead of where they started," Neuheisel said. "Gotta start somewhere. And yet in the same town they're selling out at `SC. This is where it started, and we'll see where it goes."
Quite frankly, in addition to college football not being as big on the West Coast as in the South, another huge reason for that is that California has a ton more to do than Knoxville does.
I never bought into this argument usually posed by Pac-10 homers. Most Pac-10 teams have 7 home games and there are 104 weekend days not including holidays. Is there not plenty of time to do those other things the other 97 weekend days of the year?
No. I considered it, but the thought of waiting 2 hours to get out of the rose bowl lot at the end of the game knowing i have to get to work at 6am the next morning was enough to keep we away.
Sadly I agree 100%. Even though half of Cal and USCs fans are probably of the new bandwaggon variety the other half tend to be very loyal and very knowledgable. The same can't really be said for UCLA fans. Their core fans are among the most delusional people on earth.
Is that because you leave in the 3rd quarter?![]()
cal sold out last year on labor day weekend and is darn near a sellout this year. and strangely i know a lot of Cal and SC fans who are going to this game because it isn't on a sat. makes you wonder how many ucla fans there will actually be.
Part of that has to be because the Bay Area is a heck of a lot more attractive travel destination than Los Angeles. If you're from Tennessee (or Michigan, this year), you jump at the chance to combine a trip to San Francisco and an away game. LA, not so much.
strange you say that. i've always thought LA had far more to do.
It's mostly just about atmosphere. San Francisco is unique and charming; I'd visit there every year if I could. LA is mostly just 200 miles of interconnected suburbs. I'm sure it's a fine place to live and work, but there's nothing in particular about it that makes me need to go back. (Kind of like Atlanta -- it's a decent place to live (at least down in the city is), but I can't for the life of me figure out why anybody would come here on vacation. Yet people do.)
when i lived in san francisco i always wondered why anyone would want to go to san francisco? So cal has beaches, far better weather, far better looking women, better arts, disneyland, and great mexican food. OF course for the life of me i can't understand why anyone would vacation in new york city too and I suppose the allure is similar.
I can't for the life of me figure out how in the world You can afford to live in LA...I mean I live in Miami and its expensive here but LA is insane...Whats the big secret there as I wouldn't mind relocating there sometime if for nothing else just to say I lived there for awhile LOLlol:

About 65,000 expected at Rose Bowl for UCLA-Tennessee - LA Daily News
I also love how they say they are "on target" for 65,000 meaning it could be less.
