I say just sit and wait. They could go 2-10, I hope not, but it happens. I came into this season with high hopes as I always do. I execpt the losses now, it's not easy, and know they will recover to be the Tennessee of old. This teams needs a 6-6 finish with a bowl win, but I'm affraid it won't happen.

Ohio state lost 7 games in the 1897 season, going 1-7-1, the first year of the OSU-Michigan rivalry.

I'll admit it, avoiding the 8 loss season is a big deal to me. I have a lot of pride in the Vols, and even with a miserable season such as this we can point out our tremendous history. Hanging on to that stat is one of the last shred's of dignity that we have right now. For the record, I predicted 6-6.... now I'm hoping for 5-7.

I do wonder if officially being the worse team in UT history is enough to motivate these guys to win three of the last four games.

I think they'll do that and give all our kool-aid drinkers plenty to gloat about over the off-season.

I thought 6 wins was the minimum at the beginning of the season. Right now, I'm hoping for 5 - 7. Unfortunately, next year does look a lot like a redux of this year.

If we don't nail this recruiting class, I don't see how we ever get much better. CDD is not going to create the hype that a proven coach would have. That hype is what would have given us a great (top 5) class this year. More losses over the next two years will not do it.

If this staff succeeds, it will be based on their ability to develop players and strategy. The strategy part is suspect, in my mind, based on the poor half-time adjustments.

Development is hard to observe as well, especially on defense. I'm fine with the offense--as Bray and Poole will prove them capable and give them hope going beyond this season.

Defense could be in serious trouble.

Unfortunately, for most kids I doubt that it is. Us fans get a lot more worked up about stuff like that than the players.

One of LWS posts recently was pretty ominous, that the players were ready for this season to just end. I hope that starting Bray is the shot in the arm we need to get excited and stay focused down the stretch.

For some of these guys it is the last time in their lives that they will play the game. They need to leave everything they've got on the field.

The program needs, and DESERVES, that effort as well.

I can see us winning 3 of the last 4. To expect this team to win the last four games is a bit much IMO

What' we're capable of and what we've done are 2 different things. At the beginning of the season I predicted 7-5 at best, 6-6 at worst. We might still finish 6-6 but to me, anything worse is a disappointment.

Yes I've seen us play. I've seen us blow a win against LSU because of poor management on the field and I've seen us lose a very winnable game against SC because of sloppy turnovers. I agree we lost to more talented teams in Oregon, Alabama, and Georgia. You can't do much about that. However the LSU and SC losses are inexcusable because they were a result of mental breakdowns on our part, not because we were out talented.

So going 5-7, what exacty IS the "big accomplishment" you speak of? The fact that this team survived the seaon, showed up to play, and merely won the games that they were picked to win? How is that a "big accomplishment?" To me, that's just the status quo isn't it?

To me, to call something a "big accomplishment" is saying that you exceeded expectations. That maybe you beat some teams along the way you weren't supposed to and that your players overachieved. At 5-7 can we honestly say that about this team? Was anyone on this board predicting a 2-10 or 1-11 season where 5-7 would seem so much better?

For one even though Montana is a FCS school they are by no means a pushover...they could sneak this one out on us. And secondly that meaningless game you speak of is @UConn and that will be a loss.

I agree that we've left a win or two on the field this year. My point was, right now, three out of four would be really good for this team. 4/4 would be great.

Solid analysis. Last I checked, we didn't win the LSU or USCjr games. Also unlike us, UK actually beat USCjr. Ole Miss has looked a lot better as the season has progressed, and we haven't shown a lot of improvement at this point. I think our chances in those two games are significantly lower than a lot of folks around here think.

So meeting the bottom end of your expectations would be a "huge accomplishment?" There are obviously some differences in our definitions of the words "expectation" and "accomplishment."
