Wasn't the court itself named in her honor?

The ncaa should rename the women's basketball National Championship Trophy after her.

That would be the honor she deserves on a national level.

Thank you Pat for being a great role model in life not just in basketball. I missed you when you retired and now there is a big hole missing in the hearts of all UT fans.

I think the court with her name on it and the statue is quite an honor in itself as far as UT is concerned.

I like the idea of the NCAA NC Trophy being named after her as well. She brought the sport to a national stage and sadly it's taken a step backwards since her departure.

From wiki/TBA:
It is named after B. Ray Thompson and former university president Dr. Edward J. Boling. The basketball court is named "The Summitt" after Lady Vols basketball coach Pat Summitt. It replaced the Stokely Athletic Center.

At first I thought it wouldn't be a great idea to rename the arena, but the arena is named after a former UT president and someone else without a wiki page, it might be well deserved.

I like the championship trophy idea. Can we change the petition to change that instead? I would much rather sign that petition.

I agree - as Geno said about Pat: "Lots of people coach the game but very few people get to define the game." She defined women's basketball.

Maybe have a womens basketball award the equivalent of the Heisman and call it the Summitt Trophy.

If buildings are renamed every time an important coach dies, it would get chaotic really quick. Do I a agree Pat is deserving? IMO, we could have the university owned property secede from the city of Knoxville, and it now be the city of Summitt. We would still not be honoring her enough. But renaming stadiums and arenas just gets confusing.

I am surprised nobody has thought of this: What is under construction on campus right now and has yet to be named?

Trying to get something else on campus named for her feels like we are settling, that our goal is too small. Her impact was felt all over the country, not just this campus.

The #1 goal should be to get one of the national trophies named for her. After that is done we can worry about whether anything else on campus should bear her name.

Tennessee seems to not rename places for newer players, coaches etc and I understand why. TBA was named for the people who donated a large portion of the money needed to build the facility. Tennessee is always searching for donors to help with the new constructions needed to remain competitive in the SEC and the other DI Universities. If they start renaming buildings, where /how could they expect to keep receiving donations in the future? I am sure the University will find an approparate way to honor Pat without having to rename TBA.

I don't like the idea. The court is already named "the summit". I don't like when a building, airport or bridge was named after someone and then a newer generation comes along and decides they need to change it for someone else. I like the idea of naming a trophy or award after her.
