Receivers battling for extra travel spot : Football : GoVolsXtra.com

Alongside the obvious: Taylor, Rogers, Hancock, Briscoe, and Woods. So it looks like the 6 man rotation turned into 8 due to injuries. As well as potential for another between Maples/Campbell....err....

I'm really disappointed that Gerald Jones isn't on that list because of his hamstring, but hopefully he's well enough to somehow get into the mix.

Maples is a DB now. I'm suprised that Vinson and O'Neil havent show up like most thought they would. Alot of people thought they'd be starting by now.

The travel roster probably won't be set until early-middle next week. You guys need to calm down, its starting to get really annoying at this point. Be positive and let the coaches take care of this. I think some of you lose more sleep over something you can't control than the coaches who deal with this on a daily basis.

Great point. Some of these threads get a little ridiculous. I think age may play into it a bit.

Wide receivers coach Trooper Taylor said he expects two in-state freshman receivers, Todd Campbell or Tyler Maples, to fill the slot vacated by Cottam, a senior who will be sidelined for two to three months after wrist surgery on Tuesday.

.....did you not even click on the link? haha Who would make up such news about Tyler Maples of all people?

Taylor said UT is planning to take senior Casey Woods, juniors Josh Briscoe and Lucas Taylor and sophomores Quintin Hancock and Austin Rogers.

The Vols will also take four newcomers: junior college transfer Kenny O’Neal and freshmen Denarius Moore, Brent Vinson and Ahmad Paige.

I take that as just what it says, "Vols will take 4 newcomers". Sure it could still change, but it isn't like there are too many options otherwise considering that's basically everyone from the WR corps.

You didn't see much excitement with my initial post. And what in the hell does age have to do with it? I'm 27, for the record, but that's still a pretty stupid observation.

We need guys who can catch the ball...who cares if a guy runs a 4.1 and is the best athlete in the world if he can't catch the ball.

While I agree in theory, I have mixed emotions about the idea. Recent history shows that the Vols have to stretch the field to run the football. Yes we will see improvement in the OL this year, but....if UT could add two deep threats....even if they dropped a few, defenses would have to think twice about sneaking safeties up for run support.

i really don't excpect to even know who's gonna go out there at WR on for the first series until the WR goes out there on the first series

so how long before we see the newbies out there u think?

O'Neal will probably be seen on the second series maybe the first if UT goes 4 wide. The knock on Vinson is he can't remember the plays so he might not get any reps. Moore is close to being in the top 3 now so who knows about him?

O'Neal has the drops but he's a Cali guy and will get opportunities to make plays in front of his hometown crowd. Now if Rogers or Taylor blow up like Meachem did last year then none of them will play until the 2nd string comes in.
