Joshua Dobbs and Tennessee should be the clear SEC East favorites this fall.

Tennessee is on a strong upward trajectory under Butch Jones’ watch. The Volunteers have added two wins to their total in each of the last two seasons, going from five to seven to nine wins and capping the last two years with bowl wins. With 18 starters returning, the Vols should be picked to win the SEC East at next week’s SEC Media Days.
To do so, Tennessee must survive a tough September and October. Sept. 10 features the Battle at Bristol, which will pit UT and Virginia Tech against each other before 150,000 fans at sold-out Bristol Motor Speedway. Sept. 24 brings archrival Florida to Neyland Stadium for the annual rivalry showdown. Tennessee has lost 11 consecutive games to the Gators, with 2014’s 10-9 defeat and 2015’s 28-27 loss looming as particularly crushing.
Jones will have his team ready for both games. In between? A classic sandwich game against MAC foe Ohio. The Bobcats, led by veteran coach Frank Solich, are a returning postseason team, and Solich will have his squad more than prepared for Neyland’s raucous environment. Will they catch the Vols off guard? We’ll see.

Beware The Bobcats Nation :)

I would argue that our trap game is TAMU. We should be favored going into College Station but The Aggies are loaded with talent and it's going to take our best effort to get out of there with a W
IMHO

Go Vols

Yeah. Bobcats are my pick as the trap game, also. However, I think Butch will not allow 120 to look past them.

First 7 games are against bowl teams. I think, I hope, we start 7-0.

GBO!!!

They kept themselves fairly close early on in 2009, but we pulled away late and wore them down. That said, I don't care if their coach is Frank Solich or the big blue Genie from Aladdin, this team 120 is FAR and AWAY more talented than our 2009 squad, and there won't be any magic or miracles being pulled to get Ohio a win.

Vols 52, Ohio 17

Yeah, I'm thinking we easily beat UGA, and FLA, but Tx. a&m is a horse of a different color. In other words they have a QB that has been through some battles, and it's at a big road venue also.

Those who defend Ohio states "tough" schedule will agree that Ohio is top notch. 😁

No way A&M is a trap game. Nobody overlooks an SEC team, unless your talking Florida or Georgia. I'm looking past them at Bama. To be talented enough to beat Bama, Fl and Ga is the lite work.

But Ohio? No way we lose to them. I see no need to run it up on them, 42-0.

Im curious what are some of the losses FL suffered this year in the off season> Oline and Dline right? WHat else?

UGA Dline and trouble at secondary. Am I missing something? Also no QB

This is a tough one, because I don't think you can call any of the 4 games in the gauntlet a "trap" game...we know all four are gonna be tough. It's not a trap if you can see it coming.

Likewise, the Battle at Bristol is far too big a deal on far too big a stage to sneak up on us.

But Ohio? Pfft. No. Nor Appy State, nor Tennessee Tech. The trap isn't coming from out of conference. To be a trap, it at least has to have some teeth.

No, if I had to pick a trap game for us in 2016, I'd go with either USCe or Mizzou. Both are hella weak compared to previous years, but IF there's a trap, it's one of those two.

Ohio a trap game? Really? Come on. There aren't many "trap" games on our schedule just based on how it is set up but if I had to pick one I would probably go with South Carolina. We always are given their best game and even last year when USC was in shambles they came into Neyland and gave us all we could handle.

Playing in Columbia with a 1st year HC in Muschamp wanting to prove himself is not going to be a cakewalk. I hope we don't overlook them and that we go in there and play tough. You can bet Muschamp will throw the book at us. He will try everything.

Don't know if they have the guys to score double digits on our defense.

I didn't think they had the guys to go toe-to-toe last year with us in Neyland either. The same team that lost to the Citadel the very next week I believe. And yet, it took a 4th quarter forced fumble to salvage that win. I just think that IF there is a trap game then it is USCe.

We get a terrible Mizzou team at home and none of the games during that 4-game gauntlet can be considered a trap game. This is the only team I foresee giving us any trouble. I'm not even saying USCe will play us tough, just that if we aren't careful they have the potential to surprise us. Gotta be prepared.

I gotcha. During that stretch, the road games could be the ones to sneak up on us.

But how can TAMU be a trap game? They more than likely will be nationally ranked when we play them and it's in College Station one of the largest venues for CFB currently.

We are not going to overlook an opponent like that just because Bama, another West team, is the following week. I just can't classify such a huge game as a "trap" game. A trap game is usually one that you expect to win, maybe even comfortably, that catches you at a time before a much more important game occurs. I just can't say that we expect to win TAMU comfortably. They are a very good program.

I just don't understand how people are classifying this as a trap.

Couldn't agree more that is the game to watch out for.

I don't think he is meaning its a trap game in the sense that we overlook them. That game just falls in a favorable spot for A&M. After Fla & Ga before Bama its just a sticky spot in the schedule. On the road in a big time environment.

South Carolina is our trap game. Last 3 years have all been 1 possession games won by a big play in the last minute or 2. Muschamp is a bad coach and is still 2-0 against Jones. Hopefully coming off the bye week the players will be rested up and ready to hit someone.

UGA most certainly does not have troubles in the secondary. Best Secondary in the country, last year, as far as yards allowed and they didn't lose anybody. Now there front 7 has to replace a lot including Leonard Floyd and Jordan Jenkins, and I think they have to replace their nose tackle as well.

I agree. I think South Carolina will be amped up by this point in the season and miiiiight be fighting for a bowl bid. Mizzou doesn't have the offense to hang past halftime and Ohio?? cmon. I hate to say it, but UK always plays us close every 4th or 5th year. They won't have a terrible team and the bowl eligibility thing could be factored in for them. But we should be a well-oiled machine fine-tuning for Atlanta at this point however, so hopefully not.

To Butch's credit, he has avoided allowing his team to lose focus and lose to a huge underdog yet in his career. Always seems to get his team up, even for the lower level opponents. Hope that continues in this pivotal year.
