One thing unacceptable about the game on Saturday...

Don't understand this line of thinking. It could've been 6 hours and I wouldn't have complained about watching Tennessee play football, especially given that we were beating the dog mess out of Florida for the first time in 12 years.

I don't think he was referring to the actual game play, i think he was talking about all of the commercials and fake injuries

to me the season is short enough already so every game that last longer than it should is more than ok by me.

Just remember when you start to think the games are getting to long think about the offseason on VN.

OP has clearly never watched an episode of Walking Dead. 20 minutes of tv and 40 minutes of commercials best case scenario.

It's baffling to me that a few people in this thread don't understand this. Also include how long replay reviews take (which is absurd), and sometimes the refs huddle up for more than a minute to discuss a penalty.

A college football game is supposed to last 3 hours and 15 minutes, maybe 3 hours and 30 minutes at the most. This game, the clock hit 0:00 at 7:25pm ET. 3 hours and 55 minutes is ridiculously long for a game that ended in regulation.

The games also take longer when teams are passing. The clock stops with each pass that is not completed. A series of 3 incomplete passes can add over a minute to the length of the game.

Oh and I was so thankful for the commercials in the second half - only time I dared leave my seat for a quick run to the restroom or refill on my drink. I did not want to miss a second of any play. :)

The injuries are the most frustrating thing for me. I hate it for the kids that get hurt, but they need to take the golf cart out every time, and if it isn't an injury that requires immobilization or otherwise needs to be very carefully handled to prevent further injury, they should just throw them on the cart and haul them off to the sideline. They can be better treated there anyway.

Yeah sometimes the wife will say I need you to do this/or that after the game is over. I hope for long games to get out of the honey do list. :)

sad part is NCAA is discussing how to shorten the game. Basically trying to shorten the actual games that the commercials are making so long.

CBS's commercials are ridiculous. It seems like every time play stops for something they take one. I can see it in some injury cases and strategic timeouts, but if someone calls a timeout to avoid a delay of game or because they have too many people on the field, or someone obviously has a small (fake) cramp there is no need for a 4 minute commercial break. However, that game could have lasted for 3 days and I wouldn't have cared.

it lasted 4 hours long. FOUR FREAKIN' HOURS.

That is absolutely ridiculous. Commercial breaks get worse every year.

I bet you feel the same way when on the golf corse, lets hurry up and finish so I can go cut the grass or even better be in charge of the kids.

Don't they already wind the clock after an out of bounds play once the ball is set?

I agree the ref in the red hat is the most disliked person at the game, not counting the opposing team and their fans.

As soon as the sun went down it could have lasted 4 more hours. The first 3 hours were tough, getting baked in the sun

The commercials are a beast of their own making. They don't mind taking the money from the networks for the rights, and it isn't unreasonable for the networks to attempt to make their money back and then some.

If college football decides it wants fewer commercials, it needs to be prepared to work with less money.

The number of commercial breaks and the time they are in break has not changed since 2013.

By contract, CBS' breaks are 30 seconds longer than ESPN/SECN. But the length and number hasn't changed since the last contract began.

Please give us less UT football!! Especially when we're ending an 11 year streak

I actually enjoyed that they extended the broadcast to include the post-game celebration.

Or we could like...I dunno...lessen the number of commercials during the game?
