one of CDD comments on Vols calls

I think one of the things that may have made Kiffin long to leave Tennessee was hearing some of the retarded yahoo's on Vol Calls. It HAD to be a culture shock. Not that I want Kiffin now, but damn...every show was downright embarrassing. I wish they would kill that program. It doesn't contribute any valuable information, nor does it serve an real purpose.

I'd much rather listen to interviews and maybe let people e-mail some questions, but to hear these yahoo's makes me cringe...and it always has.

Not sure if that's the best idea. Have you seen the way some people massacre the English language in written form?

Vol Calls is pure entertainment. It's like watching your child trying to do something they weren't put on this Earth to do (singing, acting, dancing, playing sports...etc.). You love them. They are a part of you. But you can't help but be incredibly embarrassed when they are screwing up at something.

"Hey... Is that your boy with his hand down his pants in right field?"

Well... 97% of the callers on Vol Calls are one of our kids with his hand down his pants in right field.

Well, we're in the South, & call-in shows are pretty much the same all over. CDD hit a home run with the "bleed orange" phrase. He picks up on things quickly & IMO will do a great job on The Hill.

thank god he didn't say, "bleeding yellow"

No, only cowards bleed yellow. Like the one who coaches the Pac-10 team that wears the colors of Wild Irish Rose and Baby Vomit.

I'm sure Coach Dooley grew up not liking UT orange, but he's always known it's orange.

Love this - perfect simile. And quite a few of the people who massacre the English language are right here!

But like you said, they're still family.

Everyone has to remember this guy was a lawyer. He knows exactly what to say and how to say it. He is a very smart man. He will do very well at UT.

By next year he'll be sitting a recruits living room having momma eat out of his hand! lol

You guys should hear "Hey Coach" which is the Bammer version. I listened for five minutes and developed a tick.

I'll agree with you that 90% of the people that call in don't know jack about football... it is nothing more than a "hey coach, how you doing?" type of entertainment.

That being the case - they have these everywhere... and the people that call in to those sound like idiots too. The only difference between Vol Calls and Trojan Explosion (or whatever they name their program) is the southern drawl here... the wording of the calls is the same. The people in California / southern California know less about football than fans of the SEC...

I'd bet my house payment on that.

We should find out what the USC call-in program is and get a bunch of "Jerry-from-Bull's-Gap" impersonators to call in and give X hell....

You talk about being embarrassed by some people's lack of grammatical and speaking skills... I guess you missed the spelling/grammar check in the top right corner before you post.

Apostrophes in the wrong places, run-on sentences, sentence fragments, incomplete sentences, ending sentences with prepositions... The list goes on and on my friend.

Before you, so openly, criticize other people and their ability to communicate correctly, maybe you should take a look at your own standards.

yeah, i must admit that although i was glad for a change from the old regime last year, it has been disheartening that kiff & co threw the baby out with the bathwater... i am glad that traditions will be valued.. and i hope that some new traditions are created along the way

+1.
At first I was happy with the change bc I felt we needed one. But when he wanted to changed EVERYTHING I got protective. So I'm glad he will embrace it, and like you said hopefully create some new ones. :clapping:

from what I see from afar, so far Dooley has made it clear, he knows and respects the traditions of UT. He does not feel anyone is bigger than the program. He knows people come to UT because of UT not him. he wont badmouth other coaches. He has a fire in his belly, and HES HONORED to be here.. hmmm yeah Im thinking keeper.

At least the "ticks and chiggers" caller who greeted FCLK last year didn't return :)

Hey, can we mail FCLK a box chock full of chiggers and ticks to USC? I'll pay the postage!!!

CDD reportedly called his mom Barbara Dooley to let her know he got the job, and STARTED SINGING ROCKY TOP on the phone.:salute:

That won him a lot of points in my book right there.
