Tennessee MUST tackle better, especially the secondary. Pro Football Focus showed the team with 13 missed tackles last Saturday, 9 on the secondary. It showed the secondary with 7 missed tackles vs UF. That’s a bad recipe against BAMA and their playmakers.

If our defense can rush (sack) their qb in any way they did against LSU, we should win. No question our offense is sharp, defense stops their scoring threat because their offense and defense have been exposed in more than one occasion this year.

Defensively we’ll be nothing against them. We’ve got to play them like Florida played us. We’ve got nothing to lose. The pressure is on them. I think CJH will put them in good situations.

We fumbled the ball 3 times against LSU and were fortunate to recover them all. We've got to hold onto the football (I'm looking at you Hendon) because if we turn it over 3 times against Bama, we'll most likely lose.
I don’t know what wrights deal is, he is a fumble machine

I wonder how many attempted tackles there are in an average football game. Say around 70 defensive plays, and guess an average of two attempted tackles per play. So that's maybe 140 tackle attempts per game.

And you worry about 7 missed tackles in the Florida game...7 out of 140. A 5% miss rate. Man, in a game as sloppy and chaotic as football, I think we could all WISH for a 95% success rate. In any metric you choose.

This isn't the concern. Effective pass coverage by the secondary is an area of emphasis. But in tackling, I think we're doing okay.

Go Vols!

If we miss Gibbs at the line of scrimmage their band will be playing Yea Alabama all night long.

Alabama will not let our offense start on their side of the field 3 times like LSU did.

A lot of variables in this game...who's at QB for Bama? Does Tillman play? There's a reason Bama is 8+ point favs at our house. I doubt the Bama team that played sloppy against aTm shows up this Saturday, so we have to play near perfect to win. Follow the General's Maxims and get a couple of breaks and we can win, untimely penalties, turnovers and not getting them off the field on 3rd down and it will be a disappointing ending.

He left the game and never took another snap after he fumbled the ball out of bounds late. He simply can't be depended on. I have a feeling we will see more of Sampson if he can start protecting better. He damn near got Hendon killed last Saturday. So I guess the question is... what's worse? Fumbling? Or getting your QB KO'd?

The team that makes the fewest mistakes will likely win. Otherwise, it's basic stuff. Discipline on defense with our gaps, containment. Establish the ground game, which obviously opens up downfield opportunities.

Key's to victory:
  1. The team that makes the fewest mistakes will win.
  2. Play for and make the breaks. When one comes your way—SCORE.
  3. If at first the game—or the breaks—go against you, don’t let up . . . put on more steam.
  4. Protect our kickers, our QB, our lead and our ball game.
  5. Ball, oskie, cover, block, cut and slice, pursue and gang tackle for this is the WINNING EDGE.
  6. Press the kicking game. Here is where the breaks are made.
  7. Carry the fight to our opponent and keep it there for 60 minutes

Just need that offense to keep humming. They have not faced an offense as potent as ours this season. Score TDs and make them punt twice, I say we can win this thing.

Tackle better (make sure tackles and gang tackle). Get good pressure on their QB (whoever it is). Tighter coverage in secondary (do not give up the middle of the field either). Contain QB if it's Milroe. On offense protect the QB and no turnovers. Win the one on one matchups on the edge.

LSU had an extremely weak OL....our guys took advantage, but Bama has a better front. But I have seen Bama miss a few blocking assignments this year (against Texas) and it got their QB sacked.
