One Game

Funny how people accept mediocrity so easily after it happens. Like o its ok. It was gonna happen at some point. They ignore when it happened. It happened when a WR was QBing for KY. Also funny how people use stats to back their statement. It happened by putting up only 7 points on a team that has allowed every other SEC team 19+. A team whose opponents averaged 24 points per game. More than that in SEC play. A team who was not bowl eligible at all.

No way man, DD obviously has us headed in the right direction.

I honestly don't see what the point of waiting is though. After Saturday, we now have every bit of information we will ever need to know about DD. He can't even beat vastly inferior teams in must win games and is working on a 2nd straight recruiting class that will be in the middle of the SEC pack. What's the point of keeping someone like that around?

I realize that he'll almost certainly be here next season, but I just don't see how letting him stay here and suck for one more season does the program any good in the long run. If we canned him now, we would obviously take a hit in the short term, but with the right hire, we could get back on the right track a year sooner.

Okay, but you are talking about bringing in another coach--a fourth--into this program, which is in my opinion, just short of becoming rebuilt. You say it will be a hit in the short-term, and I can understand where you are coming from on that, but to say it will be short-term is an assumption and it will have erased everything that has happened in the last two years. This right hire you speak of--who is he? I know you are frustrated and I know it was a horrible loss. These players need consistency and they need stability. Do you think a new hire at this point would be worth compromising that? Is it a compromise in your opinion?

I don't now if he has us turned around from where we were headed in 2008 but I do know that he likely cost himself at least a year of "equity", as Fulmer liked to say, and rightly so IMO.

I've been arguing this since the UK game, but it doesn't matter, as most folks around here are either too young or too blind to see it for what it is.
Do l expect our Vols to win every time they take the field? Of course! Do I truly believe they will win every game? Of course not, it's just not realistic!
Most posters on here have borderline delusional expectations about UT football, and really need to get a grip on the reality of our situation.

Reality is a big word and should not be mention on this board.....It is like a cuss word.....It takes the argument and the drama out of it......Lots of luck getting people to realize Reality.....

I would not be quoting Fulmer.....

Games like that happen when you are a top ranked team and overlook an opponent, when your season rides on defeating a team of that caliber and you whiff, that is a lot more revealing.

So your saying a 28pt underdog beating a top 5 team is more understandable than a 6.5pt underdog beating a 5-6 team? WOW JUST WOW!!!

I think that was kindof DD's point, though he should have just kept his mouth shut. Some of you guys say this was about 1 game, we should have won, we maybe win a bowl, and everybody is ok with it, considering. Nothing changes on the staff, and we go in next year with the same problems.
I think part of DD's point may have been that that would have hid some issues or delayed some decisions. Not making a bowl makes the coaches and players take note right now of their problems and correct them. The issues are definitely more magnified than they would have been with a win, but at least they are out and being addressed, rather than feeling good when we shouldnt.
