Once again . . . Our defense gave too much cushion

Uh perhaps that would be the best case for playing tight man coverage? To give the DL time to get pressure.

Tight man coverage with our corners? I can agree with that. I have be discussing safties, I thought others were too? I 100% agree our corners play garbage off coverage no doubt.

The loose coverage didn't seem to occur as much this game. Especially in the first half.

Not sure if anyone else saw it but one pass they completed to Jones our corner slipped a bit because he was trying to backpeddle so quickly...

If the reason we don't play our db's up close to the line is because we don't have players that are capable of doing it, then we need a new defensive backs coach who can teach proper technique. I know these guys are fast enough and quick enough to play tight man to man coverage. Every one of them are fast guys who are athletic. The problem is that we have a guy, named Slade, who coaches his db's to chase the receivers after they get behind them and then wave their hands in the air like a wild banshee and hope that he is distracted and doesn't catch the ball.

In fact, our current group of db's is one of the most talented groups that we have ever had and we refuse to allow them to play aggressively and make plays while stopping drives that eventually end up as scores for the opponent. Guys, a safety is not supposed to line up 20+ yards off the ball because he can't make a play on the ball when he is that far back. The corners can't line up 10 yards off the ball either or we will never prevent a team from getting a first down.

If our coaches knew how to scheme against opposing offenses and put our boys in the proper positions,we might have won some more games. It blows my mind when I see the opponent's receivers catching balls and being at least 5 yards away from the nearest defender and then watch our receivers struggle to get open at all. In fact, if our receivers do manage to get open at all, they have a man dragging them to the ground the second that they catch the ball. It doesn't make sense that these teams have players or call plays that allow their defenders to cover our receivers when we can't seem to do the same.

You know, we do have the option to hire coaches that can help us do the same thing to our opponents receivers. Why do we put up with such mediocrity if you can even call it that? When will we get an AD that has the guts to strive for success and get coaches that are capable of attaining success?

You lost me here.

I didn't say that they were our best group but I think they are talented enough to be the best if the coaches would let them.If Slade and Chavis would allow them to play the right way,you would see their talents. The speed and quickness of this group is as good as any group I've seen at UT. Their talents aren't being showcased and it sucks that we are wasting all of it because our coaches put them in the worst possible positions to make plays.

They are pretty athletic, but the guys we fielded in the 97-98 years were much better. I'm not sure the unit we have right now is even the best of the 2000s.

Once again, I didn't say that they were the best. I'm saying that their talent and athletic abilities are as good if not better, as a group, as any we've had.

I understand that they are athletic, but I consider having talent to mean that you can cover a guy. None of our guys can do that well. I wouldn't say any of these guys (save Berry) are more athletic than Deon Grant or Terry Fair, anyway.

You can have all the raw talent in the world, but with no one to coach you correctly, and teach you what you are doing wrong, its useless.

You have successfully stated exactly what I was trying to say. We have alot of talent being wasted because of a pitiful coaching staff and a pathetic AD that won't demand that we get a good staff.
