Georgia Tech students robbed at gunpoint | ajc.com

Two Georgia Tech students were robbed at gunpoint Saturday evening, according to campus police.
The students were walking on North Avenue near Spring Street when they were approached by a large, tan sedan, according to Tech police. A man exited the vehicle and pulled out a black revolver.
The man got both of the victims' wallets before leaving the scene on foot, police said.
One of the robbery victims sustained a minor injury in the incident.

Crime?? In a city of 4 million people? No way.

If the students would have been carrying pellet guns, this would have never happened.

Stay home if you're scared. We don't need hillbillies who are afraid of the big bad city wandering around here anyway.

People act like Atlanta is Detroit . . . and it's just not.

I've lived there, gone to school there, ridden MARTA and been to tons of games at Turner Field, the GA Dome, Phillips Arena/Omni and I've never felt slightly threatened.

Hey, I've walked back from Turner Field to Georgia Tech completely hammered before and didn't get mugged. Everybody will be fine. BTW, it's like 3 miles. If you ever think the Marta lines are too long and walking is quicker, think again.

Have you been on North Ave near Spring St? It goes straight from nice GT campus to homeless guys crowding the street.

wasn't there a pretty brutal crime near UT's campus not long ago? It's a city, get over it

Most of the time these are crimes of opportunity. It just doesn't happen during big events. One thing I've noticed since moving south is just how massive the Atlanta police force is. Cops are everywhere, especially during the events.

Too bad the students weren't dressed in orange. It would've been assumed they might be packin'.

I'm not worried about that night. Thousands of VOLS fans won't be a match for would be's.

. . . and FYI, I've seen them move in on people scalping tickets.

Anyone who gets the security alert emails from UTK knows that this kind of stuff happens in the Fort every week.

Had a friend when I was at Tech get his car stolen right off the street in broad daylight on Tech's campus. Car was locked, the guy just busted the window and hot wired it. I just don't know what you do with that.

Same thing happened to a friend of mine while I was at UT. Same stuff happens everywhere. I've lived here 15 years and never felt threatened once. That brutal carjacking double murder in Knoxville a few years ago is worse than anything that's happened in Atlanta since I've lived here.
