Hubbs and the others were talking about Pruitt's ouster. At several points throughout, they mentioned Pruitt made some enemies when he first got here; and those enemies definitely did not help him when it came to this mess. I'm a guy who loves history and tries to get the backstory on all the good historical moments. So, can someone fill me in who may know? What did Pruitt do when he first got here that would create enough animosity to lead to this? Looking forward to the information!

(Disclaimer: I'm not asking for on-the-field issues--those are pretty evident--based on their talk, this seemed to be more of behind the scenes type animosity he created).

Pruitt was difficult to work with at Georgia and FSU supposedly. He has a history of being a douche bag according to some. That said I’m sure Saban pisses plenty of people off. Amazing how winning and money soothes a lot of problems
He was rough around the edges. It’s where we all thought that a national championship winning coach as AD would help guide him and help him to where he could just focus on coaching ball.

Pruitt is a good football coach. Problem was “coaching ball” is about 5% of being an SEC head coach.

Winning especially gives you the pass on douchery. You win like Saban, Tiger, Jordan, etc...and being a douche, a dick, an SOB is competing and getting the best out of the people you're surrounded by.

Absent the wins and you're just a *hit.

I've heard/read where people say this, but was he just an a-hole or was he very demanding of others?

Wrong. He is not a good HC either. In-game decisions regularly proved that.

Probably a little of both. I mean if you remember Dooley had some issues as well. Kind of thin skinned and quick to get defensive sometimes, didn’t like to be questioned. I think Pruitt despised the media spotlight and came off like a jackass a lot.

The Brumbaugh firing also springs to mind. Just weird to fire a position coach like that. I would love to know more back story there.

I said football coach. Nick Saban wouldn’t handpick him to run his defense when Kirby left if he was some chump. Bill Oliver is effusive in his praise of Pruitt’s ability.

Like I said “coaching ball” is like 5% of being an SEC HC.

I'm right there with you. That scenario was very eye-opening for me. And the fact it was, apparently, in the middle of a game. There has to be more to it.

Pruitt had no idea how to fix a culture problem. Grabbing JG’s face mask and kicking the whiteboard was funny at the time but kinda seems messed up now.
Pruitt found out the hard way that he's the kind of guy that can win if everything is provided to him on a silver platter. If he has to do it himself he's a Gomer.

When he was at Hoover he was an A-1 douche bag. He didn't start out that way but Propst rubbed off on him. Nobody was sad when he left. Finebaum talked about his attitude yesterday and claimed he made enemies upon his arrival in Knoxville. Had the proverbial big head. Was very believable considering what I knew first hand. I would guess he's been a wee bit humbled now.

You would think being continuously curb stomped on Saturday over and over again might humble someone.

I remember Dooley talking about how much of a culture shock it was when he came here. He was sold a bill of goods to some degree and didn't get what was promised. Add to that his former position of being an AD previously which let him be in control and he said he was taken back by the situation here. He would probably be a good head coach if he wanted to be. With experience comes wisdom. He wasn't ready to play the game and fell apart. He was in way over his head. It happens a lot.

Yea and those same sheep said for weeks that Pruitt wasn't getting terminated. Idiots - complete waste of time to listen to those guys.

Other than possibly Kirby Smart, "[Insert Saban assistant name here] found out the hard way that he's the kind of guy that can win if everything is provided to him on a silver platter. If he has to do it himself he's a Gomer."
