Maybe 7 wins, but not unless this offensive line finally has some development. When you end the season so weak you lose to Kenfuky, you are not exacly screaming that you are a character team. Some new freshmen will not change this team chemistry.

Make me wrong and beat+ the Gators!!! then we are off to a good season.

I have a hard time believing the defense will be able to stop anyone in a transition year.

6 or 7 wins.

im going to say 7,theres a good shot WR derrick wont be palying with all thats going on with him,we still dont know if hunter will be 100%,so i still think we are iffy at WR,even with the 4 new ones comming in,u mix that with no run game, havent seen anything to say is going to be better, and a new DC,and just the fact dooley has only won 4 sec games in 2 years.im not sure what u all see to pick 8 wins or even 9 + wins, could some one tell me?sorry but i see 7 at best..

I am not voting.
I will say this. We win the next one, everytime. The only game that cannot be won, is one you don't play. We finally have the depth to bench a player if they do not show up to play. Lots of people seem to be confused about Dooley calling plays. Here is a hint, he doesn't call the plays. He has hired Coordinators for that. Personnel, and time management are his in game responsibility. The only fault I have for Dooley, is not benching Bray, and playing Simms in the UK game. I realize I will be flamed for saying that. That is my opinion for better or worse.

Competition at positions, trust, and team work is going to be the key this season. Trust is earned, through competition, and teamwork is built on trust. Those intangibles are going to determine success or failure. How far this team goes this year has more to do with heart than talent, and skill. We are lucky as fans, Dooley has kept the same course and direction with all the coaching shake up. The kids have had the benifit of learning from all of the coaches. The skill is there from those coaches, and from the new ones, the talent is there, Dooley recruited it very effectively. If the heart is not there, the season is lost. Heart is the only thing the coaches can't help these kids with. They have to bring that, find it, develop it, or get out of the way.

0-0
Go Vols

Guesstimate 7-5 until we see if this team has gelled at all or if there really is a team wide chemistry issue.

I just wanted to see where
everyone stood concerning the upcoming 2012 Football season. I see three outlooks being presented throughout our fanbase. Below is some of what I have been reading on this board and hearing from speaking with fellow Vol fans.

Positive outlook - 9+ wins

Realistic outlook - 8-4

Negative outlook - 7 or less wins

Under which category do you think we will fall? Please also mention why you think this to be the case. Fans of other teams are welcome.

My personal opinion is the 8-4 category. I feel that our offense will be much improved all around. We have some serious weapons on offense, and if Hunter returns healthy we will be hard to stop. I also think our running game will improve dramatically. Just like anything else you do in life, when you put an emphasis and focus on fixing a problem, normally you see results. I think this will happen with our run game. However, on defense we will have a slow start to the season with the new scheme being implemented. I suggest we will see many growing pains this year in regards to the new coaching staff, but as the season progress we should tighten things up and finish strong.

Just my opinion, now where do you stand?
We have to be able to run the football. If we can I can see 8-9 wins if not it will be another long year.

What has this team and Dooley shown that makes you think we will win 9+ games? Fan does not always = Delusional.

Read the comment right before yours. Good analysis. You are basing your predictions for the future on the past, but not considering the inevitable growth of a young team. Without the injuries to Hunter and Bray last season, this team might have won 8-9 games. Florida, Georgia, Kentucky and South Carolina were all winnable. Remember, the SouthCarolina game was awfully close except a couple of costly interceptions by the freshman QB.

Consider this: the starting line-ups for the Vols and the Tide at the time of that game compared like this:
Bama's players averaged over 31 months in their conditioning program, while the Vols averaged only 19. Those numbers assume all players entered their program in the Fall of their freshman year. That's a big conditioning gap, and I predicted (before that game) that because of it, the game would be close in the first half, then the Tide would pull away in the second. How'd that work out? This year the gap, which existed between the Vols and pretty much every team they played (at least in the conference), will not be so apparent. In my opinion, that and a more favorable schedule, spells at least 9 wins this year, hopefully at least 10 with a bowl win.

I think we end up 9-5. 9-3 in the regular season, then lose the SECCG and the bowl game

8-4. Too many ifs in the mix. Hunter healthy? Da'Rick issue? OL can push for RBs? Defense ready? Dooley has his players' back or continues to cuss them out in practice and publicly deride them, thus reducing morale?

My belief: The NC State game will tell us pretty much what to expect from this team, potential-wise. The Florida game will tell us if this team has heart.

8-4 is about the best UT can expect, since dooley still hasn't restocked the bare cupboard left by fulmer/kiffin.

Not winning more then 8 games next season would indicate some coaching problems IMO. The most difficult position to coach and develop is the QB position. That's what forced Fulmer to resign. Ainge and Crompton completed 47% and 51% of their passes, threw more int's then TD's, and the result was only 5 wins in 2005 and 2008 and Fulmer resigning.

Dooley was gifted with one of the better QB's in the conference, a player Kiffin recruited. You have an advantage when you have a QB with a strong arm and can throw under pressure. The fact, Dooley hasn't been able to have a more productive offense with him is not a good sign. No excuse to lose to a Kentucky team with a 3rd string QB and a team UT had beaten almost 30 years in a row going in.

Dooley could have went and recruited junior college players his first season to make an immediate impact. Instead he chose to sign a large class of freshmen and developed them while the team struggled the first two years. He got his 2 year pass but now he has to show a solid improvement or UT should consider a coaching change. :twocents:

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the cupboard is pretty close...with this schedule, the team's maturity and talent level, 9 wins shoukd be very obtainable.

When Coach Dooley took over UT's football team it was little more than a glorified intramural team, playing in the toughest conference in the nation. That is no longer the case. We win 9+. Thanks to DD, we are back in 2012!!
