On a positive note, maybin could return

JRM and Cam are certain to not return. Would be a dramatic development if either did. Cam is very likely to play more this year which would close the door on his options. JRM has too many responsibilities to not pursue the NFL. Another year is not going to change his shoulder history. its just not good so proving he can play at NFL level needs to happen at NFL level.

If he gets a decent draft grade, I agree. But, given his injury history, he might not get that grade.

Has he missed that many games before this season?

LWSVOL why would JRM say what he did this week if it wasnt a possibility that he might come back. Your points are well taken, but if it was so certain, why is he even entertaining the thought of coming back?

Let me go look at the quote again. I didn't interpret his comments that he was thinking about it. I took them that he acknowledged it was an option.

I just read the story on 247 again and there is no comment of him saying he is considering returning. The only reference to it is this opening paragraph by the writer.

Jalen Reeves-Maybin isn’t 100 percent sure that his Tennessee football career is finished, but the All-SEC senior linebacker sure seems to be leaning that way in the immediate aftermath of season-ending shoulder surgery.

the volquest article has no mention of him returning.

Will he consider it? Probably will cross his mind and is certainly possible if he had a setback in recovery from the shoulder surgery. I would put chances at less than 5%

Next year. He said he is considering it.

He is a senior but is eligible for a medical redshirt after undergoing season ending shoulder surgery. JRM was injured in the third game of the season against Ohio

He didn't really say he was considering it. He replied to a question about it saying it was an option, or at least he thought it was still an option. He then said it was not something he had thought about at this point.

I could tell watching him vs App and Va Tech that he was using one shoulder to tackle. I hate it for him. I hope he makes a lot of $ in NFL. I really enjoyed watching him play.

Im not sure why it's worth raising the possibility if that is close to true.

Didn't he get around a 5th round grade last year? What exactly do you think changed for him to be projected 3rd round this year?

The NFL doesn't give players grades like that to underclassmen anymore. Nowadays they either give you a 1st round grade or nothing. Fun fact, 2 years ago the NFL gave out over 50 "1st round" grades even though there are only 32 teams. The grade just says that their physical numbers fall into a range that has gotten previous players in their position drafted in the 1st round. It is far from a guarantee of a day 1 pick. Even more so if you don't get that grade

You guys put so much stock in getting to the NFL. I understand why you do. However some of these kids love ut or their schools and want to turn this thing around and be the ones to bring a natty to their school. And that is why he is considering it

If he really winds up around the 5th best LB as Kiper had him listed he really should go. He's got his degree and the risk of reinjury just doesn't make sense. Go and take the money and I wish him the best and success and I'm glad he came back and gave it one more try.

I personally think he's 100% gone and Sutton is 110% gone.

However, could JRM choose to stay while his shoulder heals if he's not physically ready for the combine? I know draft is not based entirely off the combine, but how long would he need it to heal after his surgery?
I know UT pays for the surgery, but how long does he get healthcare through the University if he chooses to go pro?

He should go pro, make some money while he can. I'm not sure his body will hold up for long in the NFL, especially since he's not very big and he's got shoulder issues--not good for a LB. He's listed at 230 lbs. on the roster, but that could be a tad generous. He's always looked light to me. He'd be silly to come back to UT under any circumstances as it would just be another year of wear and tear on his body for no money.

he is covered. he had surgery last week. its about a two month recovery and then he can get into extensive rehab. He of course has probably already starting some rehab. He will be ready for the combine

My advice- stop playing special teams. CBJ should have known better!

have you noticed the drop off of the special teams unit this year with all of our injuries...CBJ was putting best players out there...Butch gets paid to coach and win games, but don't think he's a psychic...:)

GO VOLS...GET WELL SOON!

I don't blame him for bolting for the NFL if he does. Selfishly, as a fan, I would love to see him and DKJr actually suit up for the entirety of a season. I feel like we missed out on one of the greatest LB corps in program history.

Not for sure how long you've followed the Vols but that last line is categorically incorrect. We've had a pair of OUTSTANDING LB's playing at the same time many times in the past and as good as these could have been I personally think they'd have a hard time cracking the top 10. JMO of course

As good of an all around player as he is...I don't think he'll be a high draft choice. He now has a history of injury and nobody got to see him play this season. I can't blame him for whatever he chooses but...if he were to come back and have a healthy season he'd definitely have a much better chance and being drafted high and getting some guaranteed money

Helluva scouting report.
