I just grew into it. Mostly through my granddad. They lived in Knoxville. My dad was a UT Masters Alumn, but did his PH.D. at UGA. Even though he was on staff in the experiment station system and could have scored good tickets as an employee, we only went to a few games growing up. He follows both teams, but sports teh UGA apparel. Guess that goes with 35 years employment. So, I never really was a die hard UGA fan evn though we weren't too far from Athens. They always played 2nd fiddle for me behind UT. My granddad always saved articles for me and always kept me up on UT, primarily at that time because Gault was from my highschool and I was only a few years behind him. Our song leader at Church way back was from Cookeville, and we would always watch the games down in Atlanta when they were on. My earliest memory of UT on TV was the Bluebonnet Bowl. Aside from one GT hat from a friend and one TTU hat cause I did my MBA there, I never had anything else that wasn't orange and white.

I just remember being in the tobacco barn at the age of 4 or 5 and listening to the game on the radio. Somewhere around that time I had a sweatshirt that said Go Vols and had that guy on the front carrying the ball. His helmet might have had 1 bar for a facemask. I would like to see a picture of this guy again. Seems like it was a popular logo back then. This was in the early 70's by the way.

Nothing decent there since Bull Durham's went out of business. Cindy's in Dover is about the best there is close. It's probably 5-8 miles across the bridge on the left before you get into Dover.

I turkey hunt a lot up there- that's about the only place I've found- breakfast is pretty good there.

Duck hunt near Brinkley ARK. about 50 miles north east of Stuttgart.

Whoa - we must be talking about two different places. I'm talking about the pumphouse at the west sandy dam in Springville. Dover is a long, long drive.

I grew up in an Ole Miss house in Nashville. I grew up with UT fans, and I learned growing up that Bama and UF were not my friends. I remember we went to the UT-UM game when I was still in elementary school and we sat opposite the student section. I'd never seen so many people in one place before in my life and back then I wasn't the 6'4 biggun I am now. It was epic and monstrous. I loved it. Ever since then I was a closet UT fan. Went to Ole Miss my freshman year and transferred to UT last year.

Went to the Cal game and being there was the most exhillerating experience in my life. That's when I knew that I was a Vol.

wow, I really cannot remember the time I became a Tennessee Fan, I was born into it. My grandfather always went to the games, and always had season tickets. We had an old vintage Orange Limo that we would take to the games. Sad to say, about three years ago my grandfather passed away, and I miss him dearly, he was the one that took me to my very first UT game when I was 6 years old. I have been hooked ever since, we have season tickets and go to every home game. I can truely say that I bleed orange and I WILL support the University of Tennessee no matter what!

My introduction came late, when I was a freshman at UT in 2000.

The Florida game was my first-ever UT game and when they called that thing Jabar Gafney did at the end a TD, I was just overwhelmed by the emotion, the anger of that many orange-clad fans in one place. I knew there was something really special about what I had just witnessed, and I wanted to be a part of it. :cray:

i was 5 years old i went fishing in the tennessee river when i was 5 i caught a 4,5 and a 1 pound bass and i herd it ran by neyland stadium ever since i love ut

I was born and raised in F0rt Smith Arkansas, just 45 minutes away from Fayetville (Hogland). I became a Vol fan after the 1990 Cotton Bowl (I think that was the year). Anyway, hate the Hogs love the Vols. Oddly, Graduated from Oklahoma State University. The only reason why I did not attend UT was OSU was ranked #3 in Engineering.

I honestly can't remember NOT being a Tennessee fan. I blame my family. :)

same here... My first game was bama in 90' and i dont remember anything except people standing up yelling and i couldn't see anything. My first meaningful game was probably 95'. Iwould've been 9. The best game I ever went to was either UGA last year at georgia or florida 06'.

My parents really don't care much about sports (dad is a NASCAR fan) but my older brother took the responsibility of making me a Vols fan. I guess some of the first guys I followed were Andy Kelly and Carl Pickens. I am 28 so I was probably around 9 or 10 when I first started to get upset about UT loses. I think that is the moment you know you're a fan of a team when you get upset.

The early 1950s, probably '51 or '52. Single Wing offense. I listened to every game on a static am radio. I don't think there was FM in those days. George Mooney was the play by play man and Bob Foxx was the color man. I have followed the Vols passionately since.

As many of you, I too had the good fortune to be birthed by two of the most ardent Vol fans around. They have had season tickets since around 1960 in the old X section. The 1st game my Brother and I attended was against Ole Miss in 1958. I was hooked from that game on to now. I've been to at least one game/year ever since. Even when I lived for 12 years in the Mid-West. We still have season tickets, and those two fans are still going to at least one game a year. There isn't enough space, time or your patience to list all the highlights I have seen, but any win over Bama is treasured.

I grew into it as well, having been born and raised in Tennessee, went to UT in the late 80's.

My first time to see The Big Orange live was in 1974. I still have my ticket stub...UT v. LSU!! I was 5 years old.
