On a positive note, describe when you fell in love with UT football.

My introduction came late, when I was a freshman at UT in 2000.

The Florida game was my first-ever UT game and when they called that thing Jabar Gafney did at the end a TD, I was just overwhelmed by the emotion, the anger of that many orange-clad fans in one place. I knew there was something really special about what I had just witnessed, and I wanted to be a part of it. :cray:

i guess no one else is interested in being positive tonight.

We have tried to stay positive for the past three years, but when someone is 3-0 against you and dashes your hopes of playing in Atlanta so early then it takes the wind out of your sails. Plus, we have been dealing with incompetence with out HC for alittle while now. Nice post though.

I grew into it. Just always been a fan. Never got to see anything like you did.

I honestly can't remember NOT being a Tennessee fan. I blame my family. :)

Ksusha, I'd say most folks on this board don't have a singular moment because we grew up around it.

I became a fan listening to adults sitting around the porch talking about how bad a coach Johnny Majors was in the 80's.

The first time I remember feeling really proud of the Vols on a national level was '85. Beating #1 Auburn and T Rob on the cover of SI. Good times. Not to mention the Sugar Bowl.

Listening to the radio back in the 70's got me started. We were pretty mediocre then but I loved every minute of it. Going to my first game at Neyland against Washington St. in 1980 is what got me hooked forever. Neyland was just amazing as a kid. Go Big Orange!

That's when it all started for me too.

Lifetime fan. I can't remember a time without it. Grew up listening to John Ward. A few of my most cherished memories of live games include:
  • Seeing the Minister of Defense reaking havock on quarterbacks in '83.
  • Attending the '85 Sugar Bowl with my entire jr. high football team, where I sat next to my best friends and watched our beloved (underdog) Vols destroy Miami [Testaverde who?]
  • Finally breaking the bammer win streak vs. UT in '95 (it felt damn good).
  • Watching Al Wilson force 3 fumbles vs. FL in '98 and of course "the kick" in overtime.
The list goes on and on and on.....

That would fit me. But my first real memory of a game was listening to John Ward's call during the "Miracle at South Bend". It kind of set the tone for what I wanted to do for a living. I knew I wanted to be involved with sports.

The photo of me at 2 or 3 months of age wearing a t-shirt that says "My First Tennessee Volunteers T-Shirt" pretty much sums it up.

I grew up in a Vols household, so I was always around it. But I can remember the day that I went from being just a kid who pulled for the Vols because my dad did to a hardcore fanatic. It was Oct 16, 1982, the day that we finally beat Bear Bryant's Crimson Tide to stop an 11 game losing streak to them. We were listening to the game on the radio in the living room like we always did when the Vols weren't on tv. Needless to say it was a festive atmosphere around our house for several days following, at least until the following week when we lost to Georgia Tech.

One of the most fun games I have ever attended live.

I was fishing with my dad. We always listened to UT on Saturday and the NASCAR race on Sundays while we were at the lake. Might sound a little redneck but so be it.

I would have loved to have been there.
