Both games in the same season where a touchdown was scored by UT (the fumble return against Ole Miss and obviously the goal line call last night) that wasn’t given for reasons that literally aren’t justifiable by the rules of the game. Both games were lost by one score. It reminds me of Dooley’s first year, where we beat both LSU and UNC, only for “one last play” to be put on the clock that changed the outcome of the game.

I remember at the time being beyond belief that one team could get so screwed twice in once season, and feeling consoled by the idea that such insanity was unlikely to happen in a single season ever again. Yet here we are.

I am in no way suggesting any qualitative comparison between Heupel and Dooley. The two are night and day in terms of coaching ability. This is more a commentary on how consistently the stripes have screwed our vols.

Different situations though. The missed call yesterday literally cost us a chance at winning the game, the ole miss call was much earlier and we had plenty of time to make up for it. The bigger similarity for me is the refs allowing a new player to go down every single play without penalizing a team for obviously faking injuries.

We didn’t beat LSU in 2011. That was the correct call. You can’t have 13 on the field. That one was on us.

We will get screwed by refs next year bank on it. That we know of our AD hasn’t raised any hell. I would be beating down the AA doors if I was AD and all Vol fans would know about it!

I see the similarities in feeling like a critical TD overturned by "forward progress was stopped" and teams essentially getting 40 timeouts and killing our rhythm and momentum on offense. Sucks, but we're the guinea pigs for rule changes. Also coincidentally, while playing in the Music City Bowl.

The faking injuries thing is working against us. And I don’t think the NCAA is going to do anything about it.

Unfortunately, Heupel will just have to figure out how to overcome it.
