What are they sweeping away ... ice crystals?

Yes.
They spray something on the ice that creates little ice pebbles.
Sweeping clears away the ice pebbles and makes the ice smoother for the stone to slide easier.
When they stop sweeping, the ice pebbles “catch” the stone, causing it to slow down or stop.

The weird thing about her is that she is not interested in other dogs other than my other dog. A neutered 1yr old lab mix. They are best friends and usually she is reluctant to go outside with him. She does not like my neighbors dogs and immediately wants in when they’re out. She’s also been raised around cats so no interest in them either. Her recall is surprisingly quite good, although we plan on getting a gps collar for her when we take her to the park to run around. She pretty much just walks around and smells stuff lol.

Yeah, I realized that was gonna be a logical misinterpretation. My "punning" was on the other part, that BaseVol game days always bear watching.
