OldTimer’s Dugout - Off Topic Thread

Instead of being Million Dollar Highway it should be named The Suicidal Highway.
Imagine driving this road late at night when there's absolutely no guard rails?

First time I did it was in snow harder than that and it was piled up > 18" high on the edge of the road. I was scared 💩 less, but I committed to the drive without knowing any better. Still one of the most incredible and most beautiful drives I've ever made. Wife who gets car sick just looking at curves in TN, sitting in the passenger seat going, "oh wow, look at that" pointing off the side of the mountain. I told her I never wanted to hear about car sickness again after that drive.

Later, took the parents and the kids down that stretch and they fell in love with SW Colorado. The name doesn't come from the views, but from all the silver that was carried out via that highway. If you are in the area, make the drive, but do it in something with 4wd or AWD because the video is accurate, no guardrails and regular drops of between '200 and 2k feet, but plenty of big evergreens to break your fall. 😁

I was just asking my husband if he had ridden this road before. He had in 2019 Iron Butt Ride, on his motorcycle. He said it was quite the drop! We rode the motorcycle in Ecuador a few years ago with even higher elevations/drops. Most were dirt roads and quite the eye opener!

Awesome! I'll turn 50 tomorrow. Time flies. (Also have a bet that OB won't see this).
