OldTimer’s Dugout - Off Topic Thread

I remember watching the world series when I was in junior high. PE coach got a bunch of us boys out of class so we could watch him seemingly strike out every batter. The words tough and intimidating would be understated. We watched on what seemed like a 12" black and white portable TV with rabbit ears - for those of you who can relate.

I’ve watched interviews from numerous, great hitters, talk about Bob Gibson and how intimidating he was.
I’ve heard some stories about Don Drysdale too, specifically from Frank Robinson.😁

It was a different day. I heard Drysdale's first pitch to Willie was always a knock down. Willie would get up, dust himself off, and step back into the box and battle. I have not watched an MLB game on my home TV in at least 20 years.

I watched an interview by Drysdale’s catcher, who told about their manager giving the sign to walk Frank Robinson.
First pitch, Drysdale nails him in the ribs.
Catcher calls time, goes to the mound and asks “why’d you do that?”
Drysdale’s response “if we are gonna walk him, why waste 3 more good pitches?!”
😂

Just don’t enjoy today’s game?
Like most I would have given my right nut to play MLB. Played a year of college. Was told the Reds were looking at me. After grad school we moved to Chicago where there having union negotiations. I flipped on the news and a rep is being interviewed. Asked if he was worried about things and the fans specifically and he said 'we're not worried about the fans. The fans will be back.' Now we have a game where a young mom and dad would struggle greatly to take their kids to a game. That and today's players just seem to be a bunch of prima donnas.

I can respect that.
My papaw is who really taught me the game and helped me fall in love with the game, he walked away after the strike and never went back.
