OldTimer’s Dugout - Off Topic Thread

Some baseball + football players at Tennessee. These guys are special, being parts of the 1951 football national championship team and the 1951 baseball team that made it to the College World Series.

Neyland threw out the first pitch at the Vols' CWS outing, one of those articles says.

I think this topic started in the "Hornets Nest" thread. I moved my answer over here.

After tonight, I can conclusively say that LNS is no longer a Hornet’s Nest. Other than A&M, I’ve been to every home SEC series and probably 70% of the non conference games, so this isn’t a knee jerk reaction. I’m hoping it’s due to being a transitional year both on the field and in the stadium, but it’s not the same intimidating, loud, home field advantage of 21, 22, 23, and 24. LNS has lost its stinger. The crowd simply isn’t what it used to be. Perhaps it will come back…

Granted LNS is a construction zone and the team replaced 7 position player starters, the entire starting rotation, and most of our stud relievers. I think the expectations were way too high for the 2025 team. As CTV has said, this team was never the #1 in the country. They are a good team but not elite (and that’s okay—it’s impossible to be elite every year). I expect them to win a Regional and get to a Super. I will be cheering for them to make it to Omaha but admit that is unlikely. I hope they prove me wrong…

With that said, I‘m hoping a completed stadium, no more cranes or hard hat areas will give the stadium a new buzz in 26. Not the least of which is to give the students some actual seats and show them some appreciation by doing some promotions for them. GBO.
I think it comes from okay, We've won the National Championship and fans are just coasting through the season to get to Regionals. I guarantee you if Tennessee host a Regional the stadium will be rocking. Now when it comes to the game threads up in here these frontrunners from the football and basketball forums need to learn the game of baseball. The sky isn't falling everytime a error is made and a player strikes out. Good grief.

The fact someone is that close to that thing is crazy. And people like that are wandering around society as we speak.
Overly dramatic. ;)

I've seen a petite woman with no weapon carry a pizza in each hand into a room full of teenage boys.
You've just gotta watch their eyes and know when to drop the food and run.

However you need to warp your brain into how you perceive it, rooting against Georgia is the equivalent of rooting for Alabama this weekend 😂
I couldn’t manage it if I watched, but there’s no way I would look at those asshats. When you see the score just say to yourself, “A meteor would have been better, but at least [fill in the blank] lost.” And move on. That’s how I’ll do it.
