Played Basketball as well.
We got completely sidetracked on this subject.
Winfield was drafted by 4 teams in 3 different sports!
The Padres selected him as a pitcher with the 4th overall pick.
The Atlanta Hawks drafted him in the 5th round of the NBA draft.
The Utah Stars in the 6th round of the ABA draft.
And...
The Minnesota Vikings drafted him in the 17th round, even though he never even played college ball!

Winfield was a bad man. Got a lot of hate while playing for the Yankees. By Yankees fans, Mattingly did as well...

I read like 10 pages.
Man that brings back some fun memories!
Thanks for digging that up
Did bring back memories.

This post of yours summed up how we all felt.

At the end of the day, this is the most damn fun I’ve ever had watching Tennessee baseball! I just want to enjoy it and take it all in, no matter the final outcome. I don’t care if someone strikes out, or gives up a homerun, or even if we lose. I’m having fun watching these baseVols have fun and I’m having a blast, watching CTV, build a baseball program.
GBO!!

I agreed and didn’t realize how much everyone called me a noob back then.

Book it, back to back.... Gamecocks was last team to do it I think... Got swansoned by @MAD...
I read something on reddit a few weeks ago about the history of the CWS. To me, it sure took the luster off of all those championships by west coast teams. I wish I had screenshot the map of the regions that (to me) made it easy for west coast teams to advance; it's very different from today's system. Regions under the old system aren't regions under the new system.

If you have a few minutes, read this: College World Series - Wikipedia and scroll down to Format history and changes. This one stood out :
  • 1950–1953 – An eight-team, double-elimination format for the College World Series coincided with the move to Omaha, Nebraska, in 1950. A national baseball committee chose one team from each of the eight NCAA districts.
So who played in the CWS was picked by a committee (sounds like college football).
