Pitching is fine but hitting has left a lot to be desired. Can’t leave 10 guys on base and expect to win a game. I understand Vitello is mixing up the lineup early in the season but I think anyone that knows a lick about baseball can objectively say this is not the lineup he needs to go with. Not enough offensive firepower in tonight’s lineup. Luckily there are a lot of games in a season.

I don’t think our pitching was fine tonight. Pitching has cost this game.
OU’s pitching was better than ours.

They only gave up 1 run in 9 innings. Pretty darn good if you ask me. Just get 1 hit with all the numerous opportunities we had on offense and this game is over in 9 innings. Dreiling is proving that he and Burke need to switch places in the lineup. Burke honestly has no business being in the 2 hole. Like I said, Tony knows best and knows his team better than anyone but he is just experimenting right now. This will not be the lineup come SEC play.

In the end Vols had 8 hits, OU had 11.
OU had runners on when they hit because of walks.
OU only gave up 1 run theough10.
8hits typically is a pretty good night.

I would rather have 3 or 4 hits with RISP than 8 total hits spread out. Those hits are more valuable. Which teams usually do well in MLB? The ones that can drive in runs with RISP. The top 6 teams with RBI in RISP last year were the Dodgers, Orioles, Rays, Rangers, Braves, and Astros. Those were the best teams in the majors. Pretty strong correlation between that stat and the teams that win.

Baseball….Defense/Pitching always ahead of offense this time of year. This was a great “teaching” game for the staff. While watching the game, you could see guys getting more comfortable at the plate. Burke, for example, looked uncomfortable until he popped out to right. Then he started targeting the ball and hitting it hard (until his final at bat - tip of hat to pitcher).

So far, Impresed with our defense. It’s obvious the pitchers have worked on their move to first and their delivery time to the plate. Teams will not be able to run at-will against us this year.

Looking forward to tonight’s game and how TV continues to “tinker” with the lineup.

Go Vols!
