I may be the rare "baseball guy" who likes the pitch clock and batters rules.
I believe the batters will do far better than they believe in the new system. We know that a great number of these guys are overthinking and perhaps could do more "See Ball/Hit Ball" . Get in the box and swing. You're not exactly trying to mathematically prove string theory. By the way, is there any doubt that Nomar Garciaparra would have had an emotional breakdown with these rules.
I hope the umps do not soften up on enforcement and stay consistent so all the players need to do the same thing no matter who the batter is.
I also like there's a lot more strategy than anyone expected and it's condensed into a shorter time frame. Max Scherzer will be the example of what pitchers can do to control pace. and lots of guys will follow.
However, I abhor the ban of the shift. Baseball is bailing out batters with poor skillsets. The shift will go away naturally as the next generation of ball players rediscover the ability to hit to all fields. I see the Red Sox are experimenting with moving the outfielders around to beat the ban with the opposite OF moving to a shortfield position on the pulls side. How a guy can look at an empty left or right field and not be able to hit there for an easy triple is beyond belief.
