OldTimer’s Dugout - Off Topic Thread

Spring training facilities are just insane today.

I miss the old spring training atmosphere. You could head out on a Saturday morning with a cooler of beer and catch 3 or 4 games for less than $10.
I agree with you. I personally like old ballparks. My favorite is probably Dunedin because it’s a dump. Everything out in Arizona is relatively new and sterile to me.

My favorite spring training cheap tickets: for $30 a person our cup holder was the back of the Reds dugout- we talked with some of the players. Also paid $10 a person to sit about six feet away from the Rays on deck circle when they were in Dunedin playing the Blue Jays- Johnny Damon very talkative, not a peep out of Manny Ramirez.

Don’t forget the Tiki bar.

When you start cheering for teams that are superior to his, he won’t be able to dis you anymore. Remember that.

The falcons and titans both finished 7-10 this year... Plus, the the titans have their own super bowl history that could poked, if one were so inclined.

I saw you posted this in the Falcons thread. You would think there would be more fans on Volnation but it’s like an echo chamber over there.

Before the Titans I would have said the Falcons were the most popular NFL team in Knoxville.

Second most popular team on the VN message board after the Titans are the Lions which makes sense because…
America’s Team.

My favorite place to catch a game would still be the famous Joe O'Brien Staduim.... Home of the Elizabethton Twins. MLB should stand trial for ending the Appalachian League.

Here’s my photo from a few years ago. Cat got out on the field and the E Twins bullpen emptied trying to round it up.

When was the last time we were ranked this high to start the season?
I would venture to say this is the highest preseason ranking they have ever had. I remember reading last year’s preseason ranking of #19 on the UT website and it said that the #2 ranking during 2021 was the highest ranking in program history. If #2 was the highest ranking until we got to #1 last season then we can deduce that this is the highest preseason ranking in program history.

I love me some deduction!

That GCU ballpark looks pretty nice. I guess when you have 70 million alumni, you can pull that off.
Actually, they all look pretty nice.
I can’t wait until the baseVols have a new home, I just hate that a lot of guys who have helped take this program to new heights will never get to play in it.
