OldTimer’s Dugout - Off Topic Thread

On December 22 in Baseball History...
  • 1915 - Organized baseball and the Federal League sign a peace treaty at Cincinnati, ending their two-year war. The Feds agree to go out of existence, but the major leagues pay an enormous price: $600,000 for distribution to FL owners, the amalgamation of two Fed franchises, one each into the NL and AL, recognition of Fed players' eligibility, and agreement to bid for them in a Fed-controlled auction.

  • 1953 - Jack Dunn III, whose family successfully owned and operated the Baltimore Orioles in the International League, officially turns the old team name over to the relocated St. Louis Browns. The new Baltimore Orioles will draw 1,060,910 in their first season the Browns barely drew that number in their last three years in St. Louis combined.

  • 1959 - The fledgling Continental League awards its last franchise to Dallas / Ft. Worth.

  • 1962 - Harris County voters approve a bond issue to complete the financing of an all-weather stadium to house the Houston Colt 45s.

  • 1980 - The Cardinals release outfielder Bobby Bonds. Despite 326 home runs and 456 stolen bases in 13 seasons, he hit just .203 with St. Louis. Bonds will make one more stop, his sixth in the last four years, with the Cubs in 1981.

I asked Matt Ryan if he could lead today’s meeting and he got choked up.

The Oilers won a high scoring in Dallas tonight.
I see my Blackhawks continue to succeed for tanking because a good Predators team defeated the Blackhawks 4-2.

A moral victory for South Alabama did score more points in the second half except futile because they didn’t hold Western Kentucky to a low amount of points since Western Kentucky did win that bowl game.

Mets payroll approaching $500 million after Carlos Correa contract

It will be so funny whenever the Mets don’t win this season. You have to expect there is some outrage amongst the other owners. Baseball has needed a hard salary cap like the NFL for a long time. The big market teams have always had a distinct advantage and it’s really gotten out of hand.

getting desperate having to find things from the last century ye olden days
Days since last World Series title:

Astros: nearing 50
Braves: 400+
Cardinals: 4,000+
Yankees: nearing 5,000
Mets: 13,000+
Tigers: nearing 14,000

Did I miss anyone, outside of @cobbwebb0710 other 24 teams 😜

I am not a Bills fan but Josh Allen is starting to become one of my favorite players. He has a lot of Joey Votto in him and interacts with the kids. Really a special person that all professional athletes should strive to be.

As a Dolphins fan, this really angers me...
I’m not supposed to like this guy...

Yeah, he’s definitely a good dude. I’m not a bills fan, but I’ll be pulling for them for my buds from NY.

I’m not worried that Willis is starting for the Titans Vs the Texans mainly because he has great running speed, and he is a good thrower.

I’m confident he can make the critical throws to defeat the Texans since most likely the Texans will be focused on containing Derrick the Freight Train Henry.
