Currently, the NFC South stands at 21-35 (.375). The Bucs are the only one favored to win this week. Could be 22-38 potentially after this weekend with two more weeks left. There are three divisional games remaining so that will be a guaranteed 3 additional wins/losses unless there are ties. That puts us at 25-41. Let’s say they split the Week 17 games, so 26-42 is their likely finish imo. Maybe not the worst ever, but definitely one of the worst.

  • 1918 - The Red Sox send pitchers Dutch Leonard and Ernie Shore and outfielder Duffy Lewis to the Yankees for pitchers Ray Caldwell and Slim Love, outfielder Frank Gilhooey, catcher Al Walters, and $15,000.

  • 1932 - The Giants sign former outfielder Billy Southworth as a coach. Southworth, who was a .297 career hitter, will have a .597 percentage in 13 years as a manager. All 1,044 wins will come with the Cardinals and Braves-he never takes the reigns in New York.

  • 1944 - In an even closer vote than occurred in the AL, where Hal Newhouser won by four points, the NL MVP award goes to fielding wizard Marty Marion. The Cardinals shortstop tallies one more vote than Cubs slugger Bill Nicholson. Led by Marion at shortstop, the Cardinals erred only 112 times and averaged.982. Both marks top the previous records held by the 1940 Reds.
