OldTimer’s Dugout - Off Topic Thread

On December 5 in Baseball History...
  • 1958 - The Phillies, who had made plans to broadcast into New York because of the sudden absence of NL teams in that city, drop any plans for 1959 broadcasts to New York City after the Yankees threaten to broadcast into Philadelphia.

  • 1973 - The Dodgers trade outfielder Willie Davis to the Expos for relief pitcher Mike Marshall. Marshall will win the Cy Young Award for the Dodgers in 1974.

  • 1978 - After 18 years with Cincinnati, free agent Pete Rose signs a four-year, $3.2 million contract with the Phillies to temporarily become the highest-paid athlete in team sports.

  • 1984 - The A's send base-stealing outfielder Rickey Henderson and pitcher Bert Bradley to the Yankees in exchange for pitchers Jay Howell and Jose Rijo, outfielder Stan Javier, and minor leaguers Tim Birtsas and Eric Plunk. On the same day, the Yankees trade catcher Rick Cerone to the Braves for pitcher Brian Fisher.

  • 1990 - In a major trade, the Blue Jays send first baseman Fred McGriff and veteran shortstop Tony Fernandez to San Diego for second baseman Roberto Alomar and slugging outfielder Joe Carter.

  • 1996 - The players executive board unanimously approves the new collective bargaining agreement. This is the final obstacle in bringing interleague play and a guarantee of no work stoppages until 2001 to major league baseball.

Cowboys with another interception. Matt Ryan needs to stop throwing the ball.

It's sad. Matty Ice will always be among my favorite quarterbacks for what he did for Boston College (my alma mater), and he's a big reason why I'm a falcons fan. 28-3 being associated with him makes me sad because of how well he played in that super bowl. I was even disappointed when he was traded from Atlanta last year, but not so much now. Gotta realize when it's time to hang it up.

That’s exciting. First bowl game?
No, my first bowl game was one I would rather forget. The 2010 Music City Bowl vs North Carolina where they benefited from having an offensive penalty inside of 10 seconds and kicked a field goal to send it to OT. The following year they implemented the 10 second runoff like the NFL. The game would have been over but they came back and won in 2OT. Worst sporting experience of my life.

I'm actually BC/Texas/Tennessee, it's RBF that is Tennessee/Tulane. However, I contend that if you have a degree and/or tenure from multiple institutions, then you can have as many of those schools as you like!

But who is your favorite?? Be careful how you answer this.

Can I just say UT? 🤣 Haha, just kidding! When I first arrived in Knoxville I would’ve been conflicted, but over time and with kids, it is easily Vols. For evidence of that, I’ll point you to the fact that I’m a middle aged dude who owns a daddy coat, for goodness sakes.

The daddy coat does make a really good argument.
