OldTimer’s Dugout - Off Topic Thread

Did you know that Bob Gibson started 34 games in 1968 and only gave up 38ER? In 24 of those games, he gave up 1ER or less. I’ve looked at his stats from that season before but every time I go back, it gets more and more amazing. I know @mad4vols especially enjoyed how that season ended 😜

Did the Tigers and Lions ever consider asking the Red Wings and Pistons for advice during the early 2000s? Hockey and Basketball were enjoying success while Baseball and Football were left behind. Now, all of them suck and have been exiled from the country.

Stewart Mandel's thoughts on TCU:

TCU (12-1) will be there as well, much to the chagrin of Nick Saban and Gary Danielson. This one is just plain common sense. As of Tuesday, the Horned Frogs were 12-0 and ranked No. 3. Alabama was No. 6. All that’s happened since then is TCU lost in overtime to a Kansas State team it previously beat, to fall to 12-1. Alabama is still 10-2. Never say never, but there’s no real case for Alabama to pass TCU unless the committee’s main metric is the 247Sports composite rankings.

Alabama fans will argue that their team’s only blemishes were two last-second losses. TCU had one of those, too — but only one. Alabama fans will argue that TCU’s conference stinks. Except — the highest-ranked team the Tide have beaten is none other than … No. 20 Texas.

And TCU beat it too.

And he had quite a few losses to go with his 1.12 ERA. Denny McLain had an insane season also. Mickey Lolich was incredible in the series. And they lowered the mound after that season.

Growing up a Cardinals fan and my Mom being from Detroit, that World Series is one I always heard about.

If Alabama gets into the playoff, all of those committee members should be impeached.

I think the most runs he gave up in a game was 4ER twice also. Offense was anemic in that era.

I remember renting this video from Blockbuster back in the mid 90’s, enjoyed watching very much. @cardvolfan needs to watch the 68 World Series too 😀

Now I’m in the mood for Crepes and Pierogis. I did have a quiche and croissant from a French Cafe across the street from my place, so half the matchup covered.
We have some pierogis in our freezer and I’m drinking out of a Polish coffee mug, but we’re not Polish. Does that count for anything?

Alabama fans probably: But two last second losses are better than only one.

The Athletic projects Tennessee in the Orange Bowl against Clemson. If you’ve never been to Miami that time of year, the weather is real niiiiiiiiice.
Only if you live there, as soon as you have friends and family come down to visit it gets cold and rainy and returns to perfect sunny weather when they leave.
