Stewart Mandel's thoughts on TCU:
TCU (12-1) will be there as well, much to the chagrin of Nick Saban and Gary Danielson. This one is just plain common sense. As of Tuesday, the Horned Frogs were 12-0 and ranked No. 3.
Alabama was No. 6. All that’s happened since then is TCU lost in overtime to a
Kansas State team it previously beat, to fall to 12-1. Alabama is still 10-2. Never say never, but there’s no real case for Alabama to pass TCU unless the committee’s main metric is the 247Sports composite rankings.
Alabama fans will argue that their team’s only blemishes were two last-second losses. TCU had one of those, too — but only one. Alabama fans will argue that TCU’s conference stinks. Except — the highest-ranked team the Tide have beaten is none other than … No. 20
Texas.
And TCU beat it too.
