Austin Riley is gaining ground on Paul Goldschmidt. Hits, Runs, and 2B are very close. Riley has 5 more HR while Goldie has 11 more RBI. The thing Goldie has over Riley is plate discipline, he has a lot more BB and a lot less K than Riley. Goldie has a decided advantage in BA, OBP, and OPS but SLG is almost identical. Riley has the advantage with total bases. Goldie has a 5.2 WAR while Riley has a 4.8 WAR. Riley has the edge in HR%, extra base hit %, and percentage of all hits that are extra base hits.

Riley has been on fire and it appears this race will come down to the last two months of the season. It should end up being a close vote but if Riley continues on his current trajectory then I think he will pull it out. Riley has 11 homers, 24 RBI and a .427 average this month. Both will be deserving and whoever loses will probably feel like they should have won it.

Mariners are serious about making the playoffs this year. Just made a deal for Luis Castillo. That’s the American League team I am rooting for to make some noise.

Seattle traded 2 of their top 10 prospects to get Castillo so it looks like Ohtani could legitimately command at least 5 top 10 prospects.
I like that Mariners team, specifically Julio Rodriguez. He’s a fun one to watch.

Yep the Angels are a horrible franchise. They had the best player on the planet for 8 years and added a dude that’s even more dynamic than him, but have only made a single postseason. The Angels are becoming a destination where careers go to die.
I would like to see Trout and Ohtani get away from that organization. But I have to wonder about Trouts health going forward.

The trouble with going after Ohtani is that after next year he'll be a free agent. He's only making 5.5 mil now, and will make more in arbitration next year, but you're gonna lose him to the highest bidder after that. If you give 5 prospects, that is a huge price to pay for a 1.5 season rental. Only way it makes sense is if Ohtani is the missing piece to a deep playoff run for some team this year and next. Who will that be?

I thought when they got Joe Maddon they were going to go places 🤷‍♂️

Me too. I really hate that they have 2 of the better players in the game but no one ever gets to watch them play except @VolPack22 , because they play at 11:00 at night, most games.
And God Forbid the MLBN show us an 11:00 west coast game when they can replay their version of baseball sports center for the 15th straight time!

Austin's weakness (kryptonite) is still swinging at that low outside pitch off the plate.
His last at bat last night ... he did that by striking out. It makes him look ridiculous. You'd think he has learned his lesson by now NOT to do that.
