OldTimer’s Dugout - Off Topic Thread

I was taken up in a two seater plane one time & once we were at 20K feet I said down now.
In my minds eye, I could see us losing engine power & the ground coming up to meet me.
I totally get that.
My wife’s cousin built three prop planes over the years. He flew out of the Sky Ranch off Alcoa Highway. He’d go as far as Florida. I wouldn’t sit in it on the ground 😉

:):) I had a co-worker once that made & flew planes as a hobby. He's still alive.
First ever flight was up to Louisville to watch a UK vs ND bb game with a HS friend. His dad was huge ND and the pilot/owner of the four seat Cessna was UK. Only player I remember was Kelley Tripuka. Talk about a cold trip!

Question of the day.

You get FIVE championships to divide among your favorite teams 🏆
(@cobbwebb0710 only 5)

What's the breakdown?

My answer:
Back to Back Detroit Lions Super Bowls
Tennessee Football & Tennessee Baseball Championships
Arsenal win the Premier League
Lakers already have plenty, Lady Vols Basketball have plenty and the Braves just won so I will break mine down as follows:

Tennessee Football: 2
Tennessee Baseball: 1
Tennessee Basketball: 1
Tennessee Titans: 1

Flying is great, there’s nothing to it! (flown to Hawaii, Italy, Japan, and Vietnam). Spending a whole day on the plane is not as fun though.
I’m working my way to it. I am planning to go somewhere with my son for Spring Break so I may do it then. If not, I will do it over the summer.

Great list, keeping it all in state.

I didn’t realize you and the professor were such big NBA fans.

Lakers and Spurs, oh boy, we might be butting heads on that one! Got to go to a Western Conference Finals game back in the day, Shaq/Kobe vs Timmy and crew, was good times!

I’m a huge basketball fan in general. I don’t watch as much since Kobe stopped playing but I love playoff basketball. The regular season is kind of meh but they all bring it come playoff time.

I never had anything against the Spurs honestly. Each franchise could say that if the other didn’t exist they would have 5 more championships during that era. I preferred KG’s style of play over Duncan’s but I respected him. Those Shaq and Kobe teams were unbelievable. Makes it even more special knowing they were always butting heads and still three-peat. That duo will never be matched.

Yeah, that was an epic rivalry! I saw that one from beginning (Shaq going to LA, Kobe looking special, but needing some seasoning straight out of high school) to middle (Shaq/Kobe housing everyone) to the Spurs getting some revenge. I enjoyed Timmy's game, while it was a little finesse, if you needed a bucket in the clutch, TD was guaranteed to get it for you!

To add to all of that, my father-in-law is a massive Rockets fan, and despises the Mavericks, and both teams were also in the mix during the same time period (but always succumbed to the Spurs or Lakers). He was already a huge Rockets fan when they acquired Yao Ming (my wife's family is Asian, so he was over the moon with Yao on the team). It was a good time for rivalries! He and I took my boys to their first NBA game last year, Suns vs Rockets in Houston, fun times, and 50 cent was even at the game, randomly.

This is easy!
Vols football
Vols baseball
Vols basketball
Braves baseball
I’d flip a coin for the Mets and Dolphins.

Two more notes (sorry):

1. Older son likes the warriors (meh), while younger son is for… 🤢 lakers

2. I also got to see the Bulls and Jordan against the Celtics in Boston, late 90s

I admit, I didn’t fully appreciate Duncan when he was the playing, like I do now.
