I thought the schedule was deliberately set such that the top teams from the previous year got the hardest schedules and the worst performing teams got the easiest. Didn’t they formerly do that? When did they stop?

There's a formula that basically does that but it only affects about 3 games. The other 14 games are predetermined. You always play everyone in your division twice; everyone in your division plays everyone in two other divisions, one in your conference, one in the other

It’s probably been said a bunch already but I get such a kick out of seeing Yaz the younger. His grandpa’s Topps card always amused me because they had to use an absurdly small font to get all his season stats on the back once it was getting on into the late ‘70s.

Yep, they basically give the bottom teams a slightly easier schedule compared to the other teams in the same division
