OldTimer’s Dugout - Off Topic Thread

The problem is, he isn’t even hitting that. A career .200 hitter and only .214 so far this year. His OBP has taken a massive jump to .368 this year but I just find it hard to believe they will keep Myatt’s bat out of the lineup down the stretch whenever he can be the literal difference between you winning and losing a ballgame with his power. Antigua could always prove everyone wrong and start hitting better but we are in Year 3 and not a whole lot has changed.
What you are leaving out is that this is the only season that Antigua has been healthy. No broken finger and he’s been crushing the ball in the off season. Plus, he’s never received any consistent ABs. I will reserve judgment until seeing another 30 ABs. I think he’s more than capable of putting up the #s I mentioned. Myatt could be in everyday lineup alternating with Brown at DH and LF and spot starting at 2B.

Ant has had plenty of chances (started 20 games last year) and it will be more of the same. I think the coaching staff knows it deep down. They just want to hold out hope as long as they can.

People get their expectations out of whack.
Charlie Taylor was like a .165 hitter, but we gave him a standing ovation every at bat.
Antigua is fine and we are lucky to have him

I'm so sick of these armchair Head Coaches in Game threads.. Antigua best defensive player in team and with him and Marin up the middle best SS and 2nd baseman combo at Tennessee in years.

So what if he is hitting .214? Levi Clark hitting .173 and crickets about that...damn morons...
Speaking of…Fergy and Spence were a lot of fun to watch also.

Dean Curley is no longer on the team and the defense is magically better. I’m not making personal attacks towards these guys because I’m sure majority of them are good people. I’m only talking about their ability to play baseball which is perfectly within my right. But if you want to be sensitive I’ll stop talking about the facts and only tell you what you want to hear so you can feel better.
Dean Curley is trapped in a slugging 1st baseman’s body.
Travel ball likely hurt him because he was more than likely the most gifted kid on the field, so everyone made him a SS.
Had he been developed differently he would’ve killed it at a position like 1st.
Just my worthless 3 cents.
With that said, I’m not knocking him at all, his offense and defense contributed to a lot of wins for Tennessee baseball

Offensively contributed quite a bit. One of the more pure hitters we’ve had. Middle infield left a lot to be desired though. Unfortunately you have to be an elite power hitter on most power conference teams to be a 1B so he was never going to be that for us. Hopefully he figures it out in the minors because I think his bat has major league potential.

I should’ve worded my post differently.
Travel ball obviously didn’t hurt him, he’s a hell of a player.
Travel ball likely changed the course of his position.
But I’m just rambling and this is possibly the dumbest take I’ve had in a while
