OldTimer’s Dugout - Off Topic Thread

Several brackets have yet to update but as of right now, we are trending as a 5 seed, could easily play ourselves onto the 4 seed line, with an outside shot of becoming a 3 seed if teams ahead of us drop some games. Nebraska and Texas Tech (lost their best player to an ACL injury) will end up falling off the 3 seed line by the end of the season. We can play ourselves ahead of Vanderbilt, Arkansas, and Alabama by handling our own business. St. John’s plays UConn next week so we will know if they shoot up the board after that game. UConn just lost at home to a mediocre Creighton team though so that may impact how the committee views the Big East this year. It feels like if we win out we would be battling it out with Gonzaga, Michigan State, Virginia, and St. John’s for the last two 3 seeds, in which case I ultimately see us destined for a 4 seed. But you never know what will happen. The last two weeks of the season always shakes things up.

Agreed. This is very unlikely, but and I could see a scenario where the gators get a 2 spot with Tennessee the lowest 3.

My beef is that the SEC is rated too low. I think that becomes apparent if you took the last four teams from the b1o, b12, big easy, the sec and a conference of your choosing and create a 24 team elimination bout

Lunardi has Tennessee as a #6 seed and he is usually spot on...

SEC is 3rd best conference in America this year in basketball.

Big 12
Big Ten
SEC
ACC
In that order, SEC did themselves no favors in OOC results in marquee matchups ... Everyone beats up on bottom feeders .

SEC should be a 10-bid league imo. I think the committee will try to find a way to get the Big Ten 11 bids but should also be a 10-bid league imo. Big 12 should be 8 bids. ACC should be 8 bids. Outside of Florida, nobody in the SEC has really set themselves apart. Unfortunately there is not a lot of separation between the 2nd thru 10th SEC team so it muddies the water a bit. I do agree Florida should be a lock as no worse than a 2 seed based on where their standing is in comparison to the rest of the conference.

A lot can change in two weeks and I’m sure he would say the same thing. We still have 3 quality wins available with Alabama and Vanderbilt x2. It would not be uncommon for a team to jump 2 seed lines if other teams flounder ahead of them.

Well the basketball forum guys say a #4 or #5 is the ceiling and a bad seed to have... Doesn't matter though there's only about 6 or 7 teams that possibly wins the National Championships unless Ament pulls a Danny and the Miracles replay from 1988.

I think our prospects would dramatically change if we were to scratch and claw our way up to a 3-seed. Think it's possible, but would be tough.

Also, Missouri is going to be considered a Q1 game with it being on the road. Another potential tournament team too. So really have 4 out of our last 5 games being Q1. We are currently 4-7 in Q1 games. Run the table and we finish 8-7 in Q1. We are one of 13 (I think?) teams that does not have a a Q2 or worse loss on their résumé. That could play a role come selection day. We are currently 19th in NET rankings and if we win all these games I think we could jump into the top 12 and at least make it a discussion for a 3 seed. Make a run in the SECT and we could play ourselves into making a 3 seed a lock.

Miami Ohio is the lone outlier in that stat, as they are undefeated and do not have a Q1 team on their schedule…

There's a mock selection process today and we are listed as a 5-seed

We already have the head-to-head over Louisville and could settle the Vanderbilt head-to-head. That’s two teams we can hopefully distance ourselves from. Hopefully UConn can best St. John’s to create some more separation.
