OldTimer’s Dugout - Off Topic Thread

Have they changed NIL rules for them? Have they changed military service requirements for them? Don’t they still have to wait until the summer of a high school athlete’s junior year before they can make first contact in recruiting? Service academies are at such a disadvantage compared to everyone else in sports that it’s not even funny. Why do you think I hate David Skenes so much? Dude literally transferred away from Air Force to sell his soul for a championship. He could have been exactly what he is today being a Cy Young winner staying at Air Force. I don’t care how many tours he does in support of the military, he turned his back on them for a bag at LSU, whenever a guaranteed bag was already waiting on him in MLB.
I'm not sure about all of your questions and I'm not going to google it, but it is my understanding that the academies have made changes. Is it perfect? Nope. Paul Skenes was encouraged by his air force coach to leave. But, you bring up good points and questions.

That’s @CobbWebb71 and all his favorite baseball teams.

Exactly, the coach encouraged him because I bet that coach isn’t really fully bought into serving for the military. Otherwise he wouldn’t be a coach. He would serving full-time. If you asked any high ranking official for any branch of military in private how they really feel, I bet they wish he had stayed with Air Force and gotten drafted top 10 then become exactly who he is right now. Dude basically sold his soul for one year of SEC baseball and an overrated blonde fun toy that really isn’t as hot as everyone thinks she is 🤷‍♂️

I absolutely hated the Spurs being a Lakers fan but I fully respected David Robinson. He graduated from Navy, served his two years, then started a HOF basketball career for them. Everyone can act like they are cool with what Skenes has done but I’m not and refuse to ever be alright with what he did. If you make a commitment to one of the academies then you should stand by that. That’s just how I will always feel about it. Flame away.

That overrated fun toy is an athlete and millionaire herself, and is out of Paul’s league imo. Sure he has the more impressive career, but he is not attractive, whatsoever.

You bring up a lot of good points again. However, she's hot. Ain't no fella on this board missing that if they even had a remote chance.

Money and athleticism is not everything in this world. I don’t ever date blondes. Way overrated after the experiences I’ve had. Brunettes and red heads are better. Sorry, not sorry 🤷‍♂️

Gals I know have said the same. He's certainly 'out kicked the coverage '.
Any number 1 overall pick in ANY big time sport will out kicked their coverage. It’s not that hard to find a hanger-on whenever there are multi-millions flashing in front of your face. Yeah she might be popular now, but she will run her course at some point. How many people are going to care about a 35 year old gymnast? I know I won’t give af. I will care more about a pitcher at that same age trying to win another Cy Young or World Series for the Dodgers…

Her fame won't last forever, nor will her looks. But, I'm pretty sure she's made a lot of contacts and will morph her career into something profitable .

Yeah until he finds the next up and coming gymnast lol. He’s going to be 10 years deep and well over $100M paid in the next decade. Her net worth is about $6M right now. I’d be willing to bet that never eclipses $10M. All I’m going to say is anyone that turns their back on the military will turn their back on your ass in .5 seconds 😂
