Mom(when I was very young and she was still around and normal) would make me go “pick a switch” when I would misbehave.
I’d come back with the smallest twig I could find, which made it even worse.
Neither one of us ever seemed to learn our lesson…

So if Atlanta beats New Orleans the 8-9 Carolina Panthers make the playoffs and if the Saints beat the Falcons the 8-9 Tampa Bay Buccaneers make the playoffs. Sounds like a crappy division winner will get a home game in WC round of NFC playoffs.

Folks didn't take the time to get a switch. Whatever was close enough for Mom to use, she used. Same for pops. If the strap wasn't handy, dad always had the belt, but I recall an extension cord and a hose pops used for siphoning gas being weapons of corrections.

Regardless, I deserved every single one and many more that I didn't get. Today, this would be considered abuse, but it was actually loving concern. Pops never spanked me in anger that I can recall. Plus he always explained to me what I did to deserve it and made sure I knew what was expected.
