OldTimer’s Dugout - Off Topic Thread

I don’t see the Giants winning the division again until after Freddie calls it quits, which might happen whenever his contract expires. He is a family man and I know he wants to spend more time with them so 2027 might be his last season. He will end his illustrious career with 4 consecutive World Series titles, 5 total, which is appropriate considering he wears 5 on his uniform. First ballot, unanimous HOF in my book.

Rooting for BYU and Duke to win their conference championship and Alabama to lose theirs (notice I didn’t say for Georgia to win, this is the meteor bowl of all meteor bowls for me).

If those things happen then expect the CFP ends up like this with Alabama left out:

1 Ohio State (Big Ten Champ)
2 Georgia (SEC Champ)
3 Indiana
4 Oregon
5 Ole Miss
6 Texas A&M
7 Oklahoma
8 BYU (Big 12 Champ)
9 Texas Tech
10 Notre Dame (really hoping Miami would be here but we all know that won’t happen)
11 Tulane (American Champ)
12 James Madison (Sun Belt Champ)

NO way the committee leaves Alabama out, Sankey will throw a fit as well as the SEC window licker on here.

I think Freddie plays til he gets hit #3000... I think Dodgers extend Freddie through 2030.

One of the big crybabies will be left out and I’m here for it either way. Personally, I would put Miami in there and tell Alabama and Notre Dame “better luck next year.”

That’s possible but he is currently 36 years old and they are asking him to play until he is 41 if he gets and extension through 2030. I think his sons are currently, or about, to be ages 9, 5, and 5. They will be close to 11, 7, and 7 whenever his current contract expires. So we’re asking him to play until they are about 14, 10, and 10. He is going to want to watch them play baseball at some point. I just don’t see him as the stat padding type and he will want to see his boys more often so that’s just what I believe he will choose. He has played baseball his entire life. You only have your kids during their childhood for a limited amount of time. If he averages 150 hits over the next two years he will finish with 2731 hits. Chipper retired with 2726. I know Chipper had a lot more injuries to deal with but Freddie is not a spring chicken anymore.

I have a suggestion to you Notre Dame: JOIN A DAMN CONFERENCE AND STOP CRYING ABOUT IT.

Notre Dame gets $22 to $25 million per year from NBC and goes up to $50 million a year in 2029 season... Stupid for Notre Dame to join a conference due to monetary reasons. Just needs to schedule at least 7 or 8 big time games and do like rest of country and play 4 cupcakes per season..

Memphis hires Charles Huff to be their new head coach. He was at Marshall for a few years and won the Sun Belt for them last season, then took over a Southern Miss team that didn’t win a single conference game, going 5-3 in the Sun Belt this year. With all the coaching moves within the American conference I would expect him to contend for the title very quickly there. Expect him to move up to the Power 4 within the next few years.

They have enough pull that if they said they wanted to join a conference they could keep their precious NBC deal for all their home games but have to play on whatever network the conference wants for all their away games. They are too big of a name for a conference to say “no”. I mean it’s their choice though. Keep playing a soft schedule, lose to your toughest opponents and be on the bubble every year. Either that or you have to go undefeated or 1-loss. All the Power 4 conferences are going to 9 games now so their options are going to start dwindling as conference schedules expand.

Easiest option would be for all the conferences to band together and say “we won’t schedule you because our conference schedules are tough enough”. The only way to beat a bully is to bully them back.
